Buccaneer Club is a great place to stop by for lunch while exploring Governor's Harbor (about 30 minutes south). Sporting a very cool bar, flexible hours and a shaded patio this spot is amazing. We usually drop by for a cold Kalik and an appetizer or 2. There's also a shop right next door to buy some local Eleuthera gear!

Pascal's (and more particularly Sammy's Swim-up) is an amazing place for drinks with friends. You can sit in the infinity pool with incredible views and keep the cocktails coming at the swim-up bar. It's rarely crowded but always fun. Definitely go here if you're making a trip to Governor's Harbor.

This one checks all the boxes - the Landing Restaurant is amazing for breakfast or Dinner (we've done both - we do brunch the most often - get the Ricotta Hotcakes - the best anywhere). They also have great schwag as well as make their own Rum! Highly recommend!

Harbour Island is a great must-do day trip to take during your trip to Eleuthera. To get there simply drive north to the airport and drive PAST the airport. You'll dead end into a dock area with parking on the right - park there. Walk to the water and on the right side there will be ferry boats that can take you the 5 minute trip over to Harbour Island ($5 one way per person). Once you get to Harbour Island you can walk around and site see or you can rent a golf cart for $50 for the entire day (recommended). Excellent restaurants include The Landing, Dunmore Deli, The Dunmore, Rock House, Valentines, Cocoa Coffee, Queen Conch and a ton more! Pink Sand beach is easy to get to and you can rent beach chairs for the day and order drinks at the huts on the beach right there. There's even horseback riding on the beach!

Car Rental is a MUST

All guests need to rent a vehicle. Taxi's are not reliable (no matter what you read). We recommend a high clearance vehicle. Queen's highway (the main road) is perfectly fine but some of the beaches off the beaten path do better with a high clearance vehicle. We rent from Chris Darling - he is available at 242.553.6638 (Whatsapp preferred) and he is incredible and very responsive.

Helpful tips regarding cost

Eleuthera can surprise some travelers with the cost of meals, etc. Keep in mind that VAT tax and Gratuity are included in every drink and meal you purchase which will make everything about 30% more. The good part is you don't have to worry about tipping. For things like luggage assistance, boat trips, and catering and other things you would certainly want to tip extra depending on your experience. Finally, feel free to pack food to bring down. Some things like good steaks are tough to find on Eleuthera so it's ok to pack these along with snacks and other things.

Catering

Catering is a really cool way to stay in one night and have excellent food come your way. We always recommend Horatio (who owns Da Perk) to come out. He's familiar with the kitchen and the home and does an amazing job. His number is 242.804.2515 - feel free to call or text for cost and to get an idea of the menu.

Boating Trips and Recommendations

A lot of guests want to enjoy a boat day while in Eleuthera and we recommend it if you have the time. We have booked from numerous outfitters and they're all great. One of our favorites is Captain Kid out of Spanish Wells. Jody is one of the captains and you can text him directly at 242.557.7351. He'll ask you to meet him at the Dock heading to Spanish Wells (use Google Maps) and will take it from there. Enjoy whatever type of itinerary you choose from Fishing/Lobstering/Spearing to Swimming with Pigs, Turtles, or Stingrays. For a special treat ask him about the Sand Dollar Sand bar!

Use Google Maps

When in doubt use Google Maps. And even then some spots may not pull up but the map view is a savior on certain excursions.

Power Outages and Internet

You know what they say - welcome to Island Life! This obviously comes with a few challenges from time to time. Power - the power can randomly go out - be patient and enjoy the massive deck or head to the beach. Internet - the internet is slow and inconsistent - again, embrace the moment! There are several spots you can go to with good wifi on the island if necessary (listed in the Slowtide book)

Children at Slowtide

Please be sure if you are bringing children that you watch them constantly around the home. While the house itself is extremely safe, the stairs down the to water are steep. We do NOT recommend children attempting this walk down. The island, itself is a child's dream come true. Tons of shallow water beaches, several pools to visit (Pascal's, La Bougainvillea), fishing, e. c. Safety first and enjoy yourself!

Professional Pictures

We have some amazing neighbors close by that do professional pictures (and do an amazing job) - please feel free to inquire in advance to see if they can set up a time with you and your family/friends!

People of Eleuthera

You'll hear it quite often that the most special part about the island of Eleuthera is the people. We could not agree more! They're all extremely kind and courteous - feel free to wave and say hello - they all appreciate it!
Reservá antes de viajar...

Closures on the Island

It's always best to call ahead to any restaurants/places before heading there or planning a meal/trip. The internet is not a reliable source for hours of operation. Be cognizant of the Bahamian holidays as well as Sundays (a good bit of places close on Sundays).

Packing

Pack Light! While a few nicer restaurants prefer dress codes (The Landing for Dinner, Rock House for Dinner, etc), most everything else you can get by on shorts and a tshirt. We also recommend if you have food preferences to pack those as well. The island has several grocery stores but they can be expensive and sometimes limited.

Flying to Eleuthera

There are several direct flights to Eleuthera from: - Atlanta (Delta) - Miami (American) - Fort Lauderdale (American) - Charlotte (American) - Nassau (BahamasAir, Pineapple Air, others) We recommend flying into North Eleuthera Airport or Governor's Harbor Airport. Both are the same distance from Slowtide (about 25 minutes). Be sure to let your rental car provider know which airport you're flying into.
