Fresh air, wide open spaces, a creative atmosphere and loads to entertain you, whatever the weather – this is the Brecon Beacons National Park. Our National Park contains some of the finest walking country in Europe. But there’s far more to the Brecon Beacons than that. If you enjoy making the most of the great outdoors, you’ll love the Brecon Beacons. The National Park is a great place to get active. This is not a fenced-off preserve – it’s a living, working landscape which will bring out your adventurous side.

Opened in 1986 in the former Tabernacle Welsh Baptist Chapel, Pontypridd Museum tells the story of an area transformed, from a quiet Valleys community to a thriving industrial town at the heart of the South Wales coalfield. Around this industry sprung a vibrant culture of music, art, sport and political activity which still shapes the town today.

Gnoll Estate Country Park is set amongst 240 acres of woodland and wide open spaces plus it's got an adventure playground for older types and a simple children's playground for smaller ones, and there are a variety of picnic spots and benches set about the parkland. There's a fun little 9 hole pitch and putt golf course (not to be confused with crazy or mini golf: this is real golf just putting only) plus you can try your hand (and legs!) at orienteering or geocaching. Other activities include fishing ponds. Features to look out for on your family ramble include 4 large duck ponds and the 2 impressive 18th century cascades which are like a step style man made waterfall leading down from the Grotto and the Gazebo. Plus there's also the Gnoll House ruins which include an ice house, ha ha, remnants of formal gardens, the shell of The Ivy Tower and the Fish pond House. None of these are explorable sadly but they're fun for kids to spot and interesting to wander around the exterior of.

Rhossili Bay lies at the western end of the beautiful Gower peninsula. 3 miles of golden sands, iconic landscapes including Worms Head and Rhossili Down and history everywhere- from neolithic through to the more recent, including home to Edgar Evans. Its a walker's dream with routes in all directions, including the Welsh coastal path. The beach is dog friendly all year round and the whole area is beautiful whatever the weather. The wonderful and varied landscape of the Gower Peninsula (Welsh: Penrhyn Gwyr) was the first place in Britain to be designated as an ' Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty ' (AONB) by the Countryside Agency on behalf of the UK government, and is one of only five within Wales. 2016 saw the Gower Peninsula celebrating its 60th year as an AONB, an accolade that has truly stood the test of time.

Visit South Wales Miners Museum and find yourself being taken on an historical journey back in time. The museum offers insight into the working life of a miner and features a replica miners' tunnel and an extensive collection of photographs and various mining artifacts that bring the experience to life. Be warned though, while it's very family friendly there are fairly harrowing stories of the conditions child miners worked in, so consider your own child's suitability to hear those stories! Outdoor exhibits include an authentic Blacksmith Shop, Lamp Room and an antique Engine House, so plenty of things to explore. Brave and adventurous types can also experience the dark room where there is no natural light, emulating the true conditions underground! Plus cap lamps and helmets can be tried on for a bit of underground role play! Bear in mind when you're trying to find it that it's in Afan Forest Park Visitor Centre!

Come and explore this unique tropical haven of wonderful plants and animals situated in the heart of the city, from insects, reptiles, fish and monkeys to bananas, pineapple plants, prickly cacti and giant bamboo: Plantasia has it all! The Rainforest Hut has been built using tribal techniques and is full of fascinating features to study from hammocks and musical instruments to the fire pit and spirit masks, plus tribal singing in the background! The animal elements are fairly diverse, incorporating moneys and chameleons, parakeets and the aquarium. Plenty to look at for all ages with recognizable types and one of the largest snakes in the world: lovely! The Hot House Trail is a fun educational greenhouse walk which offers huge specimens of hot weather plants like giant bamboo and sugar cane, paw-paw, lime, cocoa, black pepper and the enticingly named but utterly inedible Lollipop Plant! The Arid and Tropical climate houses demonstrate the differing environments and which plants thrive in each. Really interesting!

There are ten attractions all included in the one National Showcaves Centre entry ticket, and there is plenty to see and do for all ages. The 3 different caves Dan-yr-Ogof, Cathedral Cave and Bone Cave each offer a unique underground experience. In Dan-yr-Ogof you walk through the beautifully decorated passageways for just under 1 kilometer. In Cathedral Cave you walk through its enormous caverns, carved out millions of years ago, and at the end of this cave experience the excitement of walking behind the 40 feet high waterfalls that cascade around you in the Dome of St Paul, an atmospheric end to a truly wonderful cave. In Bone Cave learn why 42 human skeletons were buried here, and how ancestors used caves all those years ago. On site is one of the world's largest collections of life-sized dinosaur models, ranging from the ever popular Tyrannosaurus Rex and Brachiosaurs, to the lesser-known Tsintaosaurus. There are over 200 models here: can you find your favourite dinosaur? The Shire Horse Centre offers the excitement of the 2 covered children's play areas, the farm yard area, and why not make friends with the gentle giants - the friendly Shire horses who are waiting to say hello! Include the Iron Age village, museum, and stone circles, and you have plenty to see and do for all ages, and for those who may want a break, there is the Coffee shop, and the Rock and Dinosaur shop to enjoy.
