The courthouse has a long history of fires, earthquakes and rebuilds. The architecture is so different, moorish elements and Spanish revival with some wacky design features thrown in. The 360 degree view at the top gives you the best overall view of Santa Barbara. Not to be missed! You can tour for free daily and there are one hour guided tours daily at 2 PM and 10:30 Monday, Tuesday and Friday. Santa Barbara.com. 1100 Anacapa St., SB CURRENTLY CLOSED due to Covid-19.

The museum has an amazing collection for such a small town, thanks to the many wealthy people who live in the area. It has the largest collection of Claude Monet paintings on the west coast. And I’m a docent there so of course I feel that it’s a great place. Make reservations online at SBMA.net. 1130 State St., SB

Ganna Walska was a Polish opera singer and socialite who became wealthier after each of her six divorces. She created Lotusland, a huge garden in a neighborhood in Montecito with rare and costly plants to show just how much she could spend. There are individual gardens, many with whimsical touches that showcase her sense of humor and irony. It is a beautiful, unusual place and a top attraction worth visiting. You can do a self-guided tour but I would highly recommend a docent led tour to learn about Ganna and her gardens. The docents are very knowledgeable and have a treasure trove of fun stories about Ganna to share. Reservations required (I would make them one month in advance) because it is in a neighborhood and has very limited parking. The lotuses bloom in mid to late June but Lotusland is beautiful any time of year. Cold Soring Road, Montecito. Open 9-5 PM, closed Sundays. Admission $50 per person. 805-969-9990.
