Consejos sobre la ciudad

Qué meter en la valija

Bring a jacket or coat.

Even in summer, the nights can range from cool to downright cold up at this high elevation, so bring enough warm clothing, just in case.
Viajar con niños

Always keep an eye on the kids.

Especially near the river or in rocky areas, please supervise the kids at all times to prevent injury or drowning. Also, because of wildlife in the area. In early-mid-summer, the river is dangerous, with fast-moving water from the snowmelt runoff. We recommend staying out of the water, but if you must go in, do not enter the river without a life jacket!!

Important info about cell phone service...

River Island House is so secluded that there is no cell service at the cabin, but it does have a land line for your use, as well as very good Wifi.
Cómo moverse

Fly into Billings International Airport.

Billings is the closest airport and is approximately 85 miles from the cabin.

Before you drive up to Nye...

We recommend that you shop for food, beverages, and gas before you drive up (we provide coffee, sugar, sweetener, & creamer). The closest full grocery store - Stillwater Market in Absarokee - is 25 miles from the cabin (you can get convenience store items at the nearby Nye Trading Post).
Cómo moverse

Local gas stations...

On your way up here, we recommend filling your gas tank at the Cenex/Rockin J convenience store at the corner of Hwy. 78 and S-419 (Nye Rd). This is the last full gas station/convenience store before you get to Nye... or, 3 miles past Rockin J on 419 (Nye Rd.), the Fishtail store has a gas pump and is priced the same. http://absarokeearea.com/shopping/rockin-j/ Up in Nye, the trading post does have gas but at higher prices, so we're making this recommendation solely to save you money.

Watch for deer and other wildlife crossing roads.

There is abundant wildlife in this area, so we recommend keeping watch on both sides of the road as you drive in this area. In addition, June is fawn season - Fawns are apprehensive about crossing roads - If you see a deer crossing the road, a little fawn might follow her a few seconds behind, so please allow a little time & you might see a little Bambi!
