The Stawamus Chief – To hike “The Chief” is to earn a badge of honor that is coveted by both locals and visitors alike. The Chief is home to First Nations legends, local folklore and many blistered soles. Squamish’s iconic landmark is many things to many people. It’s a family-friendly hike that provides access to some of the most breathtaking views you might ever see. It’s a rock-climber’s paradise with hundreds of multi-pitch crack climbing routes and granite walls, the most well-known of which are The Apron and The Grand Wall, that will keep even the most advanced rock climbers challenged for an entire season. Towering nearly 2,000 feet above Squamish, the Stawamus Chief is the fourth largest piece of freestanding granite in North America, and one of the most talked about rock climbing and hiking destinations in North America, attracting hundreds from all over the world during the busy summer season. Hiking trails on The Chief are easily accessible from the day-use parking lot at the base where you can also watch the climbers as they swing from ropes en route to the top. There are three options for hiking: First Peak: 1.5-kilometer trail with an elevation gain of 540 meters. (Most popular)
Second Peak: 1.7-kilometer trail with an elevation gain of 590 meters.
Third Peak: 1.8-kilometer trail with an elevation gain of 630 meters. The hike is steep and relentless and you need solid footwear, water, food and a map. Local sites state that you should budget 3-5 hours for the return hike. Stawamus Chief Provincial Park is located just 2 kilometers south of Squamish alongside the Sea to Sky Highway.

The trail around Alice Lake is a popular one for an evening stroll and for the more adventurous there is the Four Lakes Trail. You can access Jacks Trail, which takes you to Alice Lake easily from our home. Simply walk to the end of Rockridge, turn right on Dowad Drive and head up. Kiteboarding: There are very few spots in the world where wind, water and land merge to provide a flawless environment for both wind and kite surfing. The Squamish Spit is one of them. Visit the Spit on a clear summer day and you’ll find a rainbow of windsurfers, kiteboarders and spectators. Located at the mouth of the Squamish River as it enters Howe Sound, the Spit is a long, narrow piece of land and the first point of land struck by the wind, making it a must-visit for high-performance wind sports. Recent upgrades have made this once-secret Squamish sweet spot even more accessible with its expanded parking and launch area. Head south on the Sea to Sky Highway until you reach Industrial Way where you will turn right. Turn right at the Queen’s Way T-intersection and follow Queens Way until it curves left and becomes Government Road. Follow Government Road 1 kilometer past the train tracks, to a small sign for The Spit on your right. Continue down the gravel route until you reach another T-intersection where you will turn left. Follow the gravel road until you reach the hiking trailhead signs on your left for the Estuary. Continue to the end of the road to reach the Spit. Whistler Squamish is perfectly situated in our humble opinion. We are a one-hour drive to Downtown Vancouver and a 30-minute drive to Whistler Creekside or 40-minute drive to Whistler Village. The time can vary depending upon road conditions and traffic. Whistler is a world-renowned destination that has positioned itself as a four-season resort. There really are endless opportunities to explore a multitude of experiences ranging from dining to the arts, sports, adventure and beyond, regardless of what time of year you visit. It really is worth the time and energy to explore the area – even for a few short hours if your schedule permits. For skiing our family prefers to drive to Whistler Creekside because it’s closer to home and offers free underground parking with easy access to upload on the gondola. And, if you prefer Blackcomb, you can always access that terrain form the top of the mountain via the Peak 2 Peak. If you are sightseeing you must upload from Whistler Village.

Sushi Sen – voted #1 Sushi in Squamish and our favorite. 40382 Tantalus. Please note, this restaurant is very popular and is always busy. If you plan to order take out the phone line may be busy and it may take over an hour so it’s a good idea to plan in advance. And if you visit, be prepared for a wait unless you arrive at opening or shortly thereafter. Open for lunch and dinner. Closed Mondays

Quaint, cute, nearby and locally owned. Looking for a comfortable, no frills, neighbourhood diner experience? Chef Big D is the locals’ favourite when it comes to simple, wholesome and tasty food, prepared fresh and natural. They have some witty and friendly staff, and a very family-like vibe. The food portions here are huge and generous, and well worth the price. All their bread is baked in house, so it’s always fresh, and a large portion of their clientele is local which we all know means it’s worth a visit.

If you have a sweet tooth, this is nearby and has a variety of treats to choose from. We are purebread, a family bakery established in Whistler with one simple mission: to bake delicious bread, savouries, cakes & treats that bring a smile to peoples' faces. We started off by baking bread at home for family & friends and to us, it's still like that...just our family's a little bigger! After plucking up the courage to share our baking at a Christmas market in Whistler some years ago, we have had fantastic local support & have grown to do many more regular markets throughout the Sea to Sky region, in addition to opening up six bakeries - two in Whistler, three in Vancouver; Gastown, Mount Pleasant & Kitsilano and our newest addition in Squamish. We have a fantastic team of people who are all as passionate about baking and eating good food as we are: we use real, quality ingredients that help to make our goodies delicious. We endeavor to serve this up with warm & welcoming customer service, and great coffee.
