Hike the Sea to Summit Trail - Starting from the Sea to Sky Gondola parking lot, the Sea to Summit Trail rises through the lower sections of the Stawamus Chief trail and eventually diverts onto the full Sea to Summit Trail, up what was once an inaccessible route through beautiful forest to the top of the Sea to Sky Gondola.
Views of Howe Sound, Sky Pilot and the surrounding peaks abound throughout. A three to five-hour intermediate/advanced climbing hike just over 900 meters and 7.5km one way, the Sea to Summit Trail is definitely a must-do. Variations of the Sea to Summit hike include finishing with the Upper Sea to Summit Trail or the Shannon Basin Loop.
What's the best part of the Sea to Summit hike? When you make it to the top and are greeted by all the facilities you missed in the last 3-5 hours of your hike. Sit down on the beautiful patio and enjoy a cold beverage while you soak up the views of Howe Sound and the Coast Mountains before taking the gondola down ($15). You can purchase your download ticket at the base before your hike, or at the summit. **Ensure that you are aware of closing times and last load downs prior to commencing your hike.
Ride the Gondola: Day tickets purchased online in advance provide savings and are valid for one round-trip on the Sea to Sky Gondola, as well as access to the suspension bridge, trails and Summit Lodge.
Your adventure starts with a 10-minute gondola ride to 885m above sea level. Once at the top, many other adventures await. Alice Lake/Four Lakes: Alice Lake is surrounded by towering mountains, dense forests and grassy areas. There are four fresh water lakes that dominate the landscape and make swimming and fishing very enjoyable pastimes. Paddle boards, canoes and small paddle boats are permitted on Alice Lake. The trail around Alice Lake is a popular one for an evening stroll and for the more adventurous there is the Four Lakes Trail.
You can access Jacks Trail, which takes you to Alice Lake easily from our home. Simply walk to the end of Rockridge, turn right on Dowad Drive and head up. When you reach the very end of the street you will see a foot path on the left-hand side that leads up to the forest. Follow the trail in and go left until you see the sign for Jack’s Trail and continue along that well marked path until you reach Alice Lake. The one-way trip takes approximately 45 minutes to an hour. When you reach Alice Lake you can utilize the park maps to navigate the four lakes trail if you choose.
You can also drive north on Highway 99 – a short five-minute drive down the road on your right

Visit the Spit on a clear summer day and you’ll find a rainbow of windsurfers, kiteboarders and spectators. Located at the mouth of the Squamish River as it enters Howe Sound, the Spit is a long, narrow piece of land and the first point of land struck by the wind, making it a must-visit for high-performance wind sports. Recent upgrades have made this once-secret Squamish sweet spot even more accessible with its expanded parking and launch area.
Head south on the Sea to Sky Highway until you reach Industrial Way where you will turn right. Turn right at the Queen’s Way T-intersection and follow Queens Way until it curves left and becomes Government Road. Follow Government Road 1 kilometer past the train tracks, to a small sign for The Spit on your right. Continue down the gravel route until you reach another T-intersection where you will turn left. Follow the gravel road until you reach the hiking trailhead signs on your left for the Estuary. Continue to the end of the road to reach the Spit.

It really is worth the time and energy to explore the area – even for a few short hours if your schedule permits.
For skiing our family prefers to drive to Whistler Creekside because it’s closer to home and offers free underground parking with easy access to upload on the gondola. And, if you prefer Blackcomb, you can always access that terrain form the top of the mountain via the Peak 2 Peak.
