The historic Altstadt of Innsbruck is a wonderful place to visit. There are lots of little shops and restaurants, and if you want to do some serious shopping, Maria-Theresien-Straße is very fine street indeed;-) The Altstadt, with its iconic Golden Roof and mountains behind, is a sight to behold!

Nice for a daytrip by car. Drive through the Ötztal to the Timmelsjoch High Mountain Road. Reaching an altitude of 2,474 metres, this magnificent mountain pass on the border between Austria and Italy is steeped in history and offers views of spectacular natural beauty. Lunch in Italy and back across the Brenner.

Our favourite hike. In the Sellrain Valley, after passing through Gries, turn left towards Lussens. Keep going approximately 15 minutes, right to the end of the road, where you’ll find a paid carpark. From here you can hike a circular trail of approximately five hours taking you to Westfalenhaus along the way. The views of the glacier and the region’s rugged nature are simply stunning.

Our favourite hike. In the Sellrain Valley, after passing through Gries, turn left towards Lussens. Keep going approximately 15 minutes, right to the end of the road, where you’ll find a paid carpark. From here you can hike a circular trail of approximately five hours taking you to Westfalenhaus along the way. The views of the glacier and the region’s rugged nature are simply stunning.
There are several really good toboggan runs on the Axamer Lizum. From the Parkplatz, there’s a run along the creek back to the alpine chalet Tirolerhaus. It is floodlit by night. There is another toboggan run that begins at the Pleisen. To get there, you should walk from the parking lot up towards Schafalm. You can also take the lift up the Birgitzköpfl and from there, behind the Naturfreundehaus, toboggan to the Birgitzalmhütte. The going can be a bit slow through the deep snow of the first stretch, but the official run starts at the Birgitzalmhütte (you can also walk up from Adelshof). Toboggans are available from the local rental shops.
