Santa Claus Office is the official place to meet Santa in Santa Claus Village at the Arctic Circle.
Christmas is not the only time of the year when you can meet this long bearded, kind man called Santa Claus. His place of birth is shrouded in the mystery of many tales, but centuries ago he made his home here in Lapland, in the northernmost region of Finland. The Arctic Circle has always been close to Santa’s heart as many of the secrets of Christmas have their roots here in this magical area.
In Santa Claus Office you get to see, what the elves are doing and what kinds of secrets this place contains. Santa Claus welcomes his friends of all ages to come and meet him in his Office here at the Arctic Circle. If you have animals and pets, don’t hesitate to bring them with you! Santa loves all the animals.

Please notice! Due to bad road conditions Santavaarantie road cannot be driven by a normal car.

From King’s lean-to you’ll see a landscape familiar from many photos and videos. The lean-to (laavu in Finnish) is located on the top of Santavaara hill approximately 8 km’s from Rovaniemi city center to north.
Please notice! Due to bad road conditions Santavaarantie road cannot be driven by a normal car.

Trails are well-marked. The one accessible even for prams leads safely past magnificent rapids to a lean-to-shelter campfire site. For a longer hike, take the open aapa mire trail or forest trail to Sortovaara. Outdoor activities in the peace of Lapland are close to town all year. Take a relaxing trip after a day at work or shopping. In summer, fish or canoe in the wild rapids. In winter, enjoy the snow on skis or snowshoes. The Vaattunkiköngäs or Vikaköngäs Rapids starting points with parking areas are clearly signposted. Also accessible by bus.

The Syväsenvaara Observation Tower is 5.7 km north-east of the Rovaniemi city centre, on top of Syväsenvaara, or Syväsen Hill. The massive tower stands on the rocky hilltop at 190 m above sea level. You can access the observation platform via stairs and an intermediate platform. The tower is covered, and it offers magnificent views over the city centre and riverside.
There are no conveniences near the tower, but the diverse services of the Santa Claus Village area can be found around 2 km away.
In the winter time the stairs may be difficult to walk.

The Syväsenvaara Observation Tower is 5.7 km north-east of the Rovaniemi city centre, on top of Syväsenvaara, or Syväsen Hill. The massive tower stands on the rocky hilltop at 190 m above sea level. You can access the observation platform via stairs and an intermediate platform. The tower is covered, and it offers magnificent views over the city centre and riverside.

The Ounasvaara Observation Tower is 2.2 km east of the city centre of Rovaniemi, on the western slope of Ounasvaara. The massive tower stands on the rocky hillside of Ounasvaara, amidst a pine forest along the Ounasvaara Winter Trail, at 160 m above sea level. You can access the observation deck via stairs and an intermediate platform. The tower has a roof, and it offers magnificent views over the city centre and the Kemi River. Next to the tower, there is a log-built lean-to with a campfire site and woodshed.
Directions: drive 1.1 km out of the Rovaniemi city centre along Kajaanintie; turn left on Ounasrinteentie; drive 350 m; turn left on Hiihtomajantie; drive 1.5 km to the Ounasvaara Cabin’s parking area. Follow the signposts from the parking area to the observation tower (900 m).
You can access the tower via several trails, for example, from the Ounasvaara Cabin’s parking area, the Sports Academy, and Ranuantie. In the winter, you can walk along the Ounasvaara Winter Trail or snowshoe to the tower.

German Soldiers’ Cemetery was blessed on 31 August 1963. Its mausoleum contains the remains of over 2,500 German soldiers who fell during the Second World War. The area is bounded by an almost metre-high fence built of natural stone. In the entrance lobby of the mausoleum is “Mother and Son”, a sculpture by Ursula Querner.
Eight rows of limestone panels line the main hall, on which are engraved the names, ranks and dates of birth and death of the deceased resting below. A tall, iron cross has been placed in the cemetery, with a commemorative plate bearing the text: “In honour of those war cemeteries which our love cannot reach, may the peace of the Lord be with them.”
The cemetery is located on the shores of Lake Norvajärvi, 18 km to the north of Rovaniemi. Signposted from highway 4. From the car park, a sand path around 500 metres long will lead you through the forest to the cemetery area.
