Sightseeing

This is the perfect family day-out. Beautiful gardens, interactive exhibitions and the largest carriage collection in Europe! And the good thing it’s free, so you could say, your carriage awaits… There’s so much to discover at Stockwood! Boasting a thrilling programme of exhibitions, an award-winning carriage display, an outdoor children’s play area and breathtaking walled gardens. The museum galleries bring the stories of local people to life, dating back from prehistoric times to the present day! Top tip - keep an eye out for the Wenlock Jug, a rare medieval masterpiece. Who knew a jug could tell you so much about Luton?! And our Garden Café is open every day, serving up delicious homegrown food, using fruit and vegetables from our garden. In fact, people love Stockwood Discovery Centre so much it won a Tripadvisor Certificate of Excellence. We’re really proud of that.

Wardown Park is the jewel in the crown of Luton’s parks with outstanding features, such as the fountain and boating lake, and a rich history. It is one of seven district parks in Luton, providing a green refuge within walking distance of the town centre. The park provides the setting for Wardown Park Museum and offers a wide range of opportunities for formal and informal recreational activities. The historic significance of the park is acknowledged by its inclusion as Grade II on the English Heritage Register of Historic Parks and Gardens, particularly due to the rarity of the combination of Victorian and Edwardian purpose-built design features that make-up the Park. We owe the existence of the park to a group of local councillors and civic leaders who arranged for the purchase of the house, gardens and land that now forms the Park on behalf of the people of the town over a 100 years ago. Their vision and commitment have left us with a legacy that we have a responsibility to maintain and cherish. The park is greatly valued by local people and with outstanding features and is one of the most visited parks in Luton. It provides an oasis of calm within walking distance of the town centre.
