Sightseeing

Parasail over the ocean!!! The best way to experience the beauty of Miraflores and Lima!!! Few places are as popular in South America with paragliders as the cliffs of Miraflores, largely thanks to the stunning views they afford of the ocean and city below. Great news for budget travelers, a brief (but worth) 10 minute stint can be bought for as little as about 160 PEN (US$50).

Visit an ancient pyramid in this city!!! For a suburb full of modern life and Starbucks :) ...an early indigenous pyramid is the last thing you would expect to stumble upon. Nevertheless, the fascinating 1,500-year-old site known as Huaca Pucllana is open to the public for about 10 PEN (US$3).

Parque Kennedy is the main park for the district (also a central meeting point). The majority of the bars, restaurants, and hotels of Miraflores are located within close proximity. There is also a gated playground for the kids. Known for its population of stray cats (over 100 furry felines take refuge here thanks to an adorable initiative from the local council) and street performers, Parque Kennedy is always a lively place to pass the afternoon. I recommend taking a stroll through the park to people watch, enjoy the sights and sounds, and maybe grab a snack from one of the many food vendors inside the park.

Stroll down the Malecón and Surf!!! The famous boardwalk known as the Malecón is the perfect place for an afternoon stroll. Occupying an enviable position on a cliff overlooking the ocean, this picturesque spot is popular with both locals and tourists alike. Miraflores boasts two surfer-friendly beaches: Makaha beach and Waikiki beach (the latter named for the famous beach in Hawaii). Both beaches are good for beginners. There are also a number of surfing schools located in the area with reasonable rates.

Of all the parks along Lima’s scenic coastal strip, the Parque del Amor is arguably the most famous. And with its coastal views, flowerbeds, colorful mosaics, and a giant embracing couple, it’s certainly the most romantic!!!

Museums

Though many of the region’s main museums are located in the central city of Lima, there are a couple museums worth checking out in Miraflores itself.
For literature lovers, Miraflores has the Ricardo Palma Museum, located in the writer’s former house.

The Amano Pre-Columbian Textile Museum features the private collection of Mr. Yoshitaro Amano. Though a bit small, it contains many unique archaeological treasures that rival anything in the larger museums.

Arts

Miraflores also has a number of great options for appreciating the arts within its borders:
The Centro Cultural PUCP functions as both a theater and art-house cinema, making it a great place to enjoy live drama or a film.
