Gastroszene

The Naschmarkt is one of the most famous food market's of Vienna. During the day you can find almost everything there - just like at a market in France. At night the street stalls close one by one and the bars and restaurants open up just as quickly. You can sit in the streets and enjoy a gin tonic along with some nice Italian food. And all that in a very vibrant place.

Adventure

If the weather is good, the Donaukanal is the place where viennese people go. There is an island inside the Danube that stretches for a couple of kilometers. If you want to go there you can just grab a bike or take the metro an drop off at Donauinsel. Wherever you go you will find a nice spot to lie in the sun and take a swim in the water.

I've been living in Vienna for quite some time now. And one of my favorite things to do is walking around the city - so here is my favorite walking route to get to see the most of everything: I always start at Schottentor. When I get out of the tram (T43) I pass the university and walk along the Rathaus. There I cross the street to get into the Volksgarten, which is a very beautiful place in summer with all the roses in full blossom and the view. I pass it and leave in direction of the Heldenplatz. Once almost in front of the national Library, I take the small passage at the left which leads me in direction of the Michaela Platz. By going there you will also cross the Hofburg and Hofreitschule. I then continue straight and only at the Josef's fountain do I turn right to get to the Stephansdom. You may have noticed by then that you are in the most prestigious shopping streets of Vienna. You could spent days just exploring all the little streets around the area with all it's little shops and art galleries. At the Stephansdom I turn right into the Kärnten Straße. At the end of the Kärnten Straße, when the street opens up and you can see the big opera, turn right in direction of the Albertina. There I head for Burggarten, which is a beautiful spot I always love to be. Cross the Burggarten and head for the Maria-Theresien-Platz at the museumsqarter. From there you can find you way to the Mariahilfer Straße which is one of the most famous shopping streets of Vienna. Almost half way in at the Mariahilfer Straße there is a metro station. And that's where my walking tour ends :)

Sehenswürdigkeiten

The Belvedere Palace is one of the most beautiful historical places in Vienna. You can wander it's magnificent gardens which stretch between the upper and lower belvedere. Inside you will find a museum with more than 800 years of viennese art.

The Stephansplatz is definitely the most historical part of Vienna. Many people would consider this place with the famous Stephansdom as the city center of Vienna. For tourists, it's definitely a must see of Vienna. You won't find many restaurants around there, but from there you will find many shopping streets starting in every direction. (It may be a good place to start your walk through Vienna, as almost everything is close from there)

This is one of my favorite places of Vienna. In the museums quarter you can find one museum next to the other and they are all built like castles in the 19th century Austrian style. If you are interested in history and art you may want to visit one of the museums, but even if you're just going to take a walk there it's worth it!

Nachbarschaften

The 7th district is the youngest, most hip district of Vienna. The Mariahilfer Straße ist the Main Street and a bit too overcrowded with its shopping malls, but once you enter the small roads surrounding it, you will find fancy cafes, stores with handmade goods and restaurants. Here is my "Aperol tour" that I like to make with friends. It includes all of my favourite bars around the 7th district. Take one drink at every bar and you will have a great night! 1. Adlerhof 2. Ganz Wien or Cafe Europa 3. Monami 4. Cafe Phil
