Loughborough Carillon is a carillon and war memorial in Loughborough, Leicestershire, England. It is in Queen's Park, and is a well known landmark, visible from several miles away. It is 152 feet (46 m) high. Plans were finalised in 1919 and when completed in 1923 it was the first grand carillon in England, the concept being associated with Belgium where so many British servicemen lost their lives during the 1914 to 1918 Great War. The Carillon was designed by Sir Walter Tapper, and is now grade II listed The carillon has 47 bells, all of which were cast at John Taylor Bell Foundry in Loughborough. The carillon was built by William Moss and Sons Ltd of Loughborough. The dedication was held on Sunday 22 July 1923, led by Bishop of Peterborough, Frank Theodore Woods and Field Marshal Sir William Robertson. Elgar composed Carillon Chimes for the occasion; the manuscript, donated to Charnwood Borough Council in the 1950s, was rediscovered in 2012. There are recitals every Thursday (1300 till 1400) and Sunday (1300 till 1400) throughout the summer.

AT THE HEART OF THE LOUGHBOROUGH REAL ALE SCENE The Swan in the Rushes has been part of the Castle Rock family for over 25 years, before this it was known as the Charnwood public house. The place was closed and seemingly unwanted before the company saw its potential, gave it a new name and re-opened the doors to a thirsty public. The pub has remained an integral part of the Loughborough real ale drinking scene ever since, offering a wide range of ten cask ales at any one time, one of which is always a mild, plus 5 traditional ciders – the Swan regularly stocks the newest brewery to the area: Charnwood. In addition to its real ale pedigree The Swan in the Rushes also offers over 30 single malt whiskies. The pub has a traditional include bar area, with jukebox and quiz machine, a quiet lounge with national and local newspapers available daily and also a dining/family room and after a bar renovation in late 2014, the Swan now offers a dynamic range of world and craft beer. Other areas include a heated smoking area and car park for customers. In October 2013 the Hop Loft was opened on the first floor, which is a multi-purpose function room fitted with a world beer bar. The Hop Loft boasts an outside terrace, free Wi-Fi, optional staffed bar, plasma screen and spacious and airy seating space – making it perfect for a variety of events and celebrations.
