A wonderful local eatery that we often walk to on a nice day. It has a covered outdoor decking area with heaters so you can also enjoy it in bad weather! Lovely coffee and cakes. Now also has its liquor licence…:). Dog friendly in the conservatory. And now doing evening meals on Friday and Saturday if you book in to one of their special nights!

A lovely park with great views to the loch and just near the famous Sweeneys cruises where you can catch a boat to cruise the loch. There is a small hut which serves hot drinks and limited food called The Slipway - located just by the water. There are some small swing parks etc but we enjoy it more for the scenery and dog walking. There is a park run here at 9.30 am every Saturday if that should take your fancy!

“The Dumpling” or to give it its proper name, Duncryne Hill, is a volcanic plug left behind from the ice age when the Loch Lomond glacier crept slowly south, from what is now Loch Lomond, and took everything with it except this volcanic plug. It rises some 460 feet/142 metres and despite not being the highest of hills in the area gives one of the best panoramic views of the Loch and surrounding areas! Effort minimal, impact maximum!

The Aber Pathway to Loch Lomond has been recently upgraded (with more work due to upgrade more muddier parts of the path soon). The walk starts as you leave your car in the Kilmarnock Millenium Hall car park. Cross over the road and see the sign for the Aber path just by the information board for the hall. Google Aber pathway for step by step guides.

Two small walks that can be started from the house. If you turn right out of the driveway you can start two walks which pass alongside or over the Gallangad Burn. In Scotland we have the “right to roam” so technically you could walk in anyone’s fields/paths. Below are the walks most of the locals will do! PURPLE WALK: shown in the photos takes about 40 mins at a easy-average pace. Follow the road to the T junction and take a left (this is also part of the John Muir Way). You can then turn down the farm driveway at Gallangad farm and make your way down the track, to climb over the gates at the end and join the road. Here you will turn left, and then right at the t-junction to get to our road. ORANGE WALK: a very quick 20-30 min walk along Gallangad Burn. If you turn eighth out of the house and then climb over the gate (on the left) opposite Caldarvan Station House (on the right). You will meander to the right along side the burn. Following the burn spots you put at another difficult to climb but possible/gate style. The walk itself is easy (but the access is not!).

Activities

Treezone (In your element) is a fun, action packed Aerial Adventure course on the bonny banks of Loch Lomond, one of Scotland's most spectacular visitor destinations. You will balance on beams dangle from vines and zip through the trees surrounded by wildlife. This adventure is suitable for adventurers from 7 years old and upwards, with a minimum height restriction of 110cm. Prepare for the ultimate high wire forest adventure! Great fun but prepare for wet weather! The trees do offer a fair bit of protection and the views over Loch Lomond are spectacular.

This is a small aquarium and while small they do have some interesting exhibits, the Bay of Rays, The Asian Otters and the walk through tank with sharks and snub nose ray's tend to be visitors favourites. You can often get vouchers (through Tesco) or discounts and we strongly recommend looking out for these as it can be quite pricey for such a small aquarium. May be better for younger kids.

Montys is just brilliant. An amazing place for kids and adults. They do a good coffee and kids can entertain themselves. Golf

Probably the nicest local golf club just 5-10 mins drive away in the beautiful village of Drymen (which is on the west Highland Way). Beautiful scenery on the edge of Loch Lomond , it offers an 18 hole course, club house, driving range, 5 hole academy course, Sky Trak swing studio and private lessons. Unfortunately we can’t link to their web site but if you type into a search, you can find their website and contact details.
