The basilica of San Lorenzo Maggiore (original early Christian basilica palatine name) is a Catholic basilica in Milan. Among the oldest churches in the city, the building was rebuilt and modified several times in the external forms almost completely preserving the primitive plant of late-ancient age: together with the front columns of San Lorenzo, once part of the anti-portico of the building, it is considered one of the major monumental complexes of Roman times in Milan. The basilica is also considered to be the first building with a central symmetry of the Christian West.
