The Fort Phil Kearny staff in the Interpretive Center and Gift Shop will introduce visitors to the context of the Indian Wars and Bozeman Trail and can guide them through a viewing of the Fort diorama that depicts, to scale, the complete fort as it would have looked in the fall of 1866. Visitors can then enter the original site, through reconstructed stockade walls, and experience the expansive grounds of the largest stockaded fort in the west. Corner posts and signs inform visitors where original buildings stood, and stockade sections demonstrate exactly how the wall was built to protect soldiers, civilians (including families), and supplies from Native American warriors, as well as large populations of hungry timberwolves. Throughout the fort grounds, interpretation invites visitors to understand fort life, the colorful characters that resided therein and appreciate the contrast of a busy fort operation in such an isolated location. Pets are welcome on site grounds! Please keep all pets on a leash at all times and pick up after them. No pets are allowed inside the Interpretive Center building. The state also manages the Fetterman and Wagon Box battle sites, which are both free areas, open sunrise to sunset seasonally. Fort Phil Kearny Interpretive Center HOURS May 1 - Sept. 30: OPEN every day 8-6 Fees are $3.00 for Wyoming residents and $5.00 for non-residents. Children under 18 free year-round. Bus Fee $5.00 per person non-resident year-round. (WY resident fees apply) Oct. 1 - Oct. 31: OPEN Wed. - Sun. 12-4 Nov. 1 - April 30: OPEN by appointment. This is a beautiful old park just west of downtown Sheridan. During the summer, there is an ice cream shack that serves great ice cream!! Big goose creek runs along the park and yes, you can catch fish in it.

FROM ITS AUTHENTICALLY furnished rooms to its finely manicured lawns, Trail End displays an elegantly different aspect of Wyoming's rich and colorful history. Built in the Flemish Revival style, the 13,748 square foot mansion known as Trail End provides an intriguing glimpse into life during the period 1913 to 1933, primarily as seen through the eyes of the John B. Kendrick family. This was a vibrant time when the world was undergoing radical changes in technology and society. The Kendricks participated in most of the seminal events of the era - World War One, the Jazz Age, the Great Depression - and took advantage of most of the new technologies, from elevators and vacuum cleaners to automobiles and airplanes. Exhibits and displays throughout the home – utilizing primarily original artifacts from the house and family – provide information on daily life, entertainment, interior design and changing technology as well as early twentieth century ranching on the Northern Plains.
