The archetypal neighborhood coffee shop with a few unexpected twists, such as Vietnamese coffee and the occasional Thai food offering on special, Yordprom has built a very loyal following throughout the city. Quirky and comfortable, it appeals to a wide range of clientele, from those desiring more flavorful drip coffees to others looking to grab a quick cup to go.

While not exactly a secret, like the speakeasy’s of yore, Bramhall is a hideaway where you can forget the outside world completely and focus on what’s important – having a good time. Descending the front steps and entering Bramhall is an all-immersive experience. Even during the late afternoon this brick and stone lined chamber is lit primarily with candles and dim sconces with the only natural light sneaking its way in through antique stained glass windows. It’s obvious why Scofflaws favored this sanctuary during the days of prohibition imparting a sense that Bramhall might still be standing long after the end of the world.

We still hand cut every donut and continue to use wholesome ingredients. In addition to plenty of fresh Maine potatoes, we include the highest quality dark cocoa powder and 60% dark chocolate chips in all chocolate donuts and glazes, and color our glazes with only fruit juices or vegetable dyes, no fake colors. While we typically sell out, if for some reason we do have leftovers at the end of the day they are donated to organizations such as the Preble Street Resource Center because we believe in giving back to the community that has shown us so much love and support.

Like the joints we visited in North Carolina and Texas we are a “self service” or “quick service” restaurant. That means you order at the counter and we’ll bring your food to the table. If you decide to sit at the bar you can order from your bartender. The dining room is a nice wide open space with plenty of room for the kids to run around. We also have a couple of vintage arcade games . Seating is communal at the long picnic tables or you can choose one of our 50's dinette tables. Our smoker was custom built from an old propane tank by Chef Jay Villani and Ray Touringhy. It is fueled entirely by Maine red oak. You can see the “smoke shack” on your right when you drive into our parking lot. The Salvage bar is open late and we always have the game on. We have 17 taps featuring mostly Maine micros, an extensive bourbon list and wine on tap.

In 2014, Tandem opened a new West End location – Tandem Coffee + Bakery. The bakery is headed up by Tandem’s best friend and baker extraordinaire, Briana Holt. Once again, Tandem was lucky enough to find a unique old building - this one built in the 1960’s. Once a gas station then laundromat - now a beautiful place to sip coffee, eat delicious baked goods and chat with friends.

Figgy’s Takeout and Catering provides refined comfort food for busy people. We recreate the wholesome meals you grew up eating but simply don’t have the time, or inclination, to make. We use only the best produce, meat and products that Maine farms and businesses have to offer. We even forage some ingredients ourselves! We are committed to supporting the local economy and every effort is made to protect our environment. We use only biodegradable to-go containers. Waste is either recycled or composted, and our used cooking oil is converted into bio-fuel.

FARM TO TABLE Staying true to Maine’s seasonal offerings, Executive Chef Jay Villani, Chef de Cuisine Travis Kern and Sous Chef Henry Remenapp construct a menu that is both innovative and familiar. Ingredients are sourced from local farmers, foragers, and fishermen. Many components of the menu, such as breads, charcuterie, pickled vegetables, and desserts, are prepared in-house. Local 188 has its roots in Spain but draws influence from all over the Mediterranean to create a unique blend of old and new. THE BEVERAGE PROGRAM Local’s wine list features over 100 bottles and is a true labor of love for wine director Jenny Gardiner. Selections range from the standards to the esoteric with specialization in Spain, France and Italy. Bar manager Jeremiah Davis presides over the beer and cocktail list. Jeremiah brings 14 years of mixology experience to Local along with a precise knowledge of local and national micro brews.
