A recent new addition to Streatham this place is a modern pub that serves BBQ-style food, mostly on flatbreads. We’ve only been once but it was great.

Pretty good local cinema showing all the big blockbusters but if you’re looking for more arthouse films then the Ritzy in Brixton or the Picturehouse in West Norwood. The Odeon shows a film for small children on a weekend morning at 10am.

Smaller than Tooting Common but it has a brand new playground. If you can, take a stroll to the top where you’ll find The Rookery, a very beautiful walled garden with a monthly farmers market. A great spot to let the kids run around. There is also a really good cafe up there for coffee, ice cream and lunch.

A real foodie hotspot. These two dilapidated markets have been filled with food stalls featuring cuisines from all over the world. Our favourite is probably Salon (not quite so good with kids though).

Other Areas Nearby

East Dulwich has a nice parade of shops along its high street and a good but small market on a Saturday. Brick House Bakery is a favourite of ours; it serves excellent food and coffee and some of the best fresh sourdough bread you’ll find in London. Dulwich Park is beautiful and perfect for a stroll and some lunch in the cafe.

Brixton is rough and ready but has a good selection of foodie outlets and most importantly has an Underground line which will take you straight into the heart of London in less than 15 minutes. Brockwell Park - A really lovely park close to Brixton.

Battersea park is beautiful and has a great play park for the kids and you can walk along a section of the river from it. We sometimes drive there as there is a pay-and-display car park. You can also walk across the river to Chelsea/Sloane Square/The Kings Road. a train from Streatham Hill goes direct to Battersea Park.

Really nice independent shops and a great supermarket, Waitrose. There is a great butchers there called Chadwicks. Milk is a hipster-y cafe with a young crowd that always has a queue out of the door but the food is GREAT. The Foxlow restaurant has a menu that focuses on meat but they also have a quite good value set lunch. There is a Gail’s near the Tube which always offers good salads, bakery items and coffee.

Clapham has a large common that is quite nice for a walk around but tends to be filled with younger, sporty types playing rugby. Moens the butcher in Clapham Old Town is a proper old-school butcher that serves just about the best meat you can buy in London. Expensive but the quality is exceptional (if meat is your thing!) Clapham Old Town is a nice spot to walk through and you will find The Diary (a restaurant) there; it’s one of the best restaurants in south London.

A lovely park for a stroll. Get the 319 bus direct there from outside the Manor Arms or the train from Streatham Hill. Chez Bruce overlooks the common and is one of our favourite restaurants. It’s a special occasion/Michelin star type place so comes with a hefty price tag but the cheese board is EPIC!
