Greek taverna. Right on the beach. No fancy shoes are needed here. Stay barefoot and watch the sunset while kids play with ducks and kittens… Better reserve a table if you wish to be seated literally by the water!

The monastery of Kastriani was built in 1700, with the expenses of a local landowner when –according to the legend– some villagers, led by a mysterious light, discovered the icon of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary. Remember to dress modestly when entering the monastery. There is a big fair in the monastery on August 15.

Beaches & Nature

Kea has some of the best beaches in the Greek islands! The island doesn’t have endless long sandy stretches like the ones in Mykonos or Crete. There are many smaller ones dotted around the island with crystal clear waters. Do not expect tidal timings! Greeks like to travel distances to reach the ideal beach based on the weather conditions. For example, on a strong north wind day, expect Koundouros beach to be busy, as it provides calm waters. On the seldom occasion of a South wind then Otzias bay is the go to the beach!
Blue flag beach. Many sunbeds. Relax at the picnic chairs under the big tree while there! Taverna has tasty and fresh food. Reserve one of the two big tables if you are a big group. You may order food at the cafe as well. Lovely salads and especially the one with dried figs...Club sandwich, souvlaki, and burgers are all-time favorites.
