In the heart of the social scene on the outskirts of downtown Charleston, this is one of our favorites. The escargot and mussels are DELICIOUS appetizers, and there is something on the menu for everyone.

Coast has delectably fresh seafood, and a flavor-imparting amazing wood-fire grill. We have enjoyed items from the raw bar to the steak and everything in between. Never had a bad experience there! (Oh, and they have 1/2 price bottles of wine on Sundays)

Vegetarian and Gluten-Free friendly, the food here is fresh and delicious. Go early if you just want a nice meal and a great wine/beer/drink selection. Go later if you want more of a night life scene (just be prepared for it to get loud). Favorite apps are: Pickled Shrimp, Beef Jerky, Ricotta Cheese

Lost Dog Cafe is a favorite of both locals and tourists. They are open daily with the following hours: SUNDAY | 6:30 AM - 2-00 PM, MON - SAT | 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM | While most people go for breakfast, I often go for their burger. The home fries are loaded with garlic, so be prepared ;) Oh, and on Mondays all of their delicious mimosa flavors are just $5! Go as early as you can, as they tend to have a long wait, especially on the weekends. If you DO have to wait, you can get a coffee or adult beverage at the bar.

"Go for Mike's Famous Duck Club. It's a Charleston favorite, and named on untold numbers of "best sandwich" lists, but the ingenious combination of duck confit and apple-smoked bacon cannot be overstated. Plus, duck fat fries". | Charleston Eater | We also enjoy their Saturday AND Sunday brunch menus (they still serve from their full regular menu).

This hidden gem isn't quite so hidden thanks to travel guides and Food Network, so be prepared for a line. It's so worth it! They have local craft beers on tap, a fabulous view of the river, and the seafood is some of the freshest you can get! Although the majority of it is fried, they also have Frogmore Stew/Lowcountry Boil, Shrimp and Grits, and boiled shrimp. On season (typically late September to early April, depending on the water temperatures), you can also get steamed oysters right from our very own waters!

This may still be a bit of a well-kept secret on James Island. The food is fabulous, service is attentive, and there's usually not too much of a wait. I highly recommend getting the mussels for the table! Save your calories for this, because you are going to want to soak up all the sauce with their delicious fresh bread. Yum!

Sightseeing

Fort Sumter is a sea fort in Charleston, South Carolina, notable for two battles of the American Civil War. It was one of a number of special forts planned after the War of 1812, combining high walls and heavy masonry, and classified as Third System, as a grade of structural integrity. Work started in 1829, but was incomplete by 1860, when South Carolina seceded from the Union. http://www.fortsumtertours.com/

One of the most iconic images of Folly Beach is the Morris Island Lighthouse. At the very end of the East side of Folly Beach you can park & walk to get the absolute best views of the lighthouse. There is plenty of parking around the end of East Ashley Ave & down Sumter Street, then it's about a quarter mile walk past the old coast guard station to the beach that is the closest possible spot to the lighthouse. When you get down there, you will see a sandy beach, the lighthouse inlet, the Cooper River Bridge, people fishing and crabbing, old foundations from structures, weather worn driftwood, and plenty of sea life including dolphins, fish, crabs, and shell hunting. GREAT PHOTO OPS!

One of the best cleaners on James Island. They always do a good job and if there is any problem they will call you. There is a drive-thru and the prices are reasonable. For same day service, there is a 9AM cutoff. Please note, this is not a "fluff and fold, underwear and socks" place. It is for dry cleaning and folded shirts/pants.

Walmart is known for basically having everything you need, and this one is no exception. Sometimes the checkout lines are long, but they have a great selection of food and necessities and they are very close to "home".
