Food Scene
Daufuskie Island has three restaurants (with another expected by Easter, 2020 and one coffee shop. There are also several local islanders who will provide meals delivered to your vacation home. Daufuskie Rental Group provides detailed information (including an island map) to our vacation guests upon their arrival.
Starbucks has nothing on this wonderful little gem, located in the heart of Daufuskie's Historic District. Brian and Pam will make you feel like old friends from the moment you walk in the door...truly the place where "everyone knows your name." They have a great selection of coffee drinks and use high quality coffee, tea, and hot chocolate products. (If you're really lucky, you'll have a chance to sample some "Pam-Cakes"...but don't take too long because they go fast!)
The School Grounds Coffee shop is located in the historic Mary Fields School, built by the WPA. It is a 2 minute walk from the Da Fuskie Dreams House.

Golf Carts - Ground Transportation
Most residents and guests get around our 5 mile by 3 mile island by golf cart. (Your car will stay at your departure dock parking lot.) For all Daufuskie Rental Group vacation homes, either a cart is included or we help you with a cart rental from one of several island cart companies.
We can also refer guests to a bike rental company, although our dirt roads are difficult to transfer by bike, and there are few street lights for night time driving.
We also refer guests to Daufuskie Transit for ground transportation from the dock to your vacation home.

Freeport General Store
The Freeport Marina General Store has an ATM and an ice machine. The store carries a nice selection of Spartina purses and accessories, developed by a former Daufuskie resident who nows provides her overstocked items to the store. All items are half-priced.

Pack Light!
Your DRG vacation home includes bed & bath linens, but bring beach towels.
Most people end up packing more than they need. This is a very casual island & your vacation home includes a washer & dryer.
Please avoid bringing the super-sized suitcases in consideration of your boat and ground transport crew. Use ice packs or frozen food in your cooler instead of bags of heavy ice. Sunscreen, a broad-brimmed hat, & a light rain jacket may come in handy. Bring Benodryl (especially for kids) & other meds you might need.
Bringing Fido? Flea & Heartworm meds applied beforehand are a must.

It's a Friendly Island!!
Daufuskie is a unique and quirky island. A few tips:
1) Slow down a bit. You'll enjoy yourself more if you can adapt to "Daufuskie Standard Time!"
2) Get to know us! You can either spend all your time at the beach (which is tempting, we know!), or you can turn your vacation into a truly memorable experience by exploring our little island. Most folks here are glad to chat about Daufuskie's people, history, & culture.
3.) When on a cart, be sure to wave at others...It's expected!

Is There Enough For Kids To Do Here?
Kids LOVE Daufuskie! They especially enjoy riding in golf carts, the quiet beaches, the Daufuskie Island Community Farm, kayaking, and the casual and fun restaurants. It really is the perfect place for family vacations, and we often see families coming back again and again.
A good source for family activities is Tour Daufuskie, which offers a variety of outdoor activities including kayaking, paddle boarding, golf cart tours, etc.
