"Alternative" Frome, home to many quirky independent shops and restaurants and a fabulous small independent cinema (the Westway) that only costs £4 a ticket and doesn't cost an arm and a leg for popcorn either or a gin and tonic if you prefer! There is a fabulous market that takes over the whole of the town centre on the first Sunday of each month. The Cheese and Grain is the local live music venue.

Mere is a large village that is rather picturesque and has an ancient hill fort behind it that you could miss altogether if you're not carrying a map with you! its only 4 miles away and has a very useful Co-Op mini market, a good fish and chip shop, a Chinese takeaway, an Indian restaurant & three pubs! There is also a quirky florist come coffee bar come veg shop called the Sprout & Flower! Not forgetting the very useful Post Office & newsagent as well.

Theres a great walk to this pub from Kingston Deverill, its about 4 miles and will take about an hour and 15 minutes or so, dependent on how many times you stop to admire the scenery! The George does good pub food and is always busy, but it serves food all day so it doesn't matter how long you take to walk there! Its also got a nice seating area out by the river.
