Great seafood. U have to be there very early (before 12:30 for lunch, and before 18:30 for dinner) or very late (between 16:00 and 18:30, or after 23:00) if u want to avoid the long queues. My fav times is late afternoon or late night. Closes on Monday! Doesn't accept reservations. 25-35 euros per person. PS. My favorite starter is Pata Negra, the world famous Spanish ham, accompanied by a beer. Then, give me that amazingly fresh seafood! For meat lovers, finish with the "desert" = steak sandwich ("prego").

Great Portuguese restaurant in a very traditional neighborhood. It only opens at lunch time. You have to be there before 12:30 or after 15:00 if you want to avoid long queues. You can also book a table. It closes on Sunday! Each portion serves 2 (trust me!), and costs about 15-20 euros. My favs include "Lulinhas à Algarvia" (fresh little squids fried in olive oil, garlic and coriander), "Carne de Alguidar" (pork meat that soaked in red wine for several hours before being cooked) and of course "Bacalhau à Lagareiro" (roasted cod fish, with olive oil, onions, peppers, chick peas and roasted potatoes).

Chef cuisine by Portuguese chef Henrique Sá Pessoa (I have all his cookbooks!). The place is beautiful, and the food is great. You have to book in advance. Around 80€ per person.

This the classic Portuguese restaurant where you go to have a regular PT meal. Not fancy, not amazing, just reasonably good and affordable. At lunch time it's full with PT people (you may have to wait 5min for a table, but there are no queues here, since it's a bit out of the beaten track), and you'll have more daily options. They also serve dinners, but it's mostly (lost) tourists that go there at dinner time. Around 7 euros per portion. Please note that the owner has 2 other restaurants on the same street and in front of each other: one is called "Bessa", and the food has the same quality (or better) and prices; the other is called "Granja Velha", and it's the most expensive of the bunch.

This is the classic Portuguese restaurant where you go to have a regular PT meal. Not fancy, not amazing, just (more than) reasonably good and quite affordable. They have nice fresh fish. Around 9 euros per portion. If you go at dinner time, be aware that you'll have to wait a bit if you go after 8pm, because the place is famous among PT people. The place is also louder and the service not so good at night time.

Portuguese sandwiches highly priced for locals, but quite yummy (ok, for Lisbon standards - you have to travel around the country to find the real yummy)! I lived in this neighboorhood for more than 10y and just discovered this place on my last year living there, which means Baixa can still have some secrets. Mostly locals go to this place, since it's a bit out of the beaten track. Around 6-7 euros per sandwich. Favorite sandwiches: suckling pig (this is quite great by any PT standards!) and fried cuttlefish ("choco").
