Food scene

This is just at the end of the alley from our place. Go left down the alley and you're there! Great coffee, snacks, treats, breakfast, lunch, and lots of good people. If you prefer a quieter coffee look at some of my other suggestions.

This is excellent food. If you think vegan food is lacking, just try their Chkn Caesar Wrap!!! Wow, delicious! But really everything is good here. The fact that it's healthy is a major bonus. Just a block away. Go left, out of our flat, down the alley, cross the street and then cross again (pretty much kitty-corner from Oso Negro).

Water park for little kids, field for sports, ice rink, basketball court, playground. This is several block up the hill from our suite but well worth the walk or drive if you have kids or just like a nice park. The best outdoor ice rink in Nelson, bring your stick hockey stick.

Outdoor kids pool (must have a youngster to enter), playground, lookout, gardens, forest paths. The lookout is a must-visit location. See Nelson from above. Walk NW up Baker St to the end and wrap around to Vernon, then up up to Gyro.

Beautiful view after a pleasant, if moderately difficult, hike. This is a must for the outdoorsy visiter or local. Many Nelsonites do this hike as part of their regular exercise routine.

"Going to the beach" often means going to Lakeside. Super big, beautiful beach with parkland backing and Nelson's best playground. There's a decent beach-food restaurant too. Keep walking down the paved path and you'll end up at the soccer field. Keep going and you're at the dog park before long. You might jump on the tram while there.

Here's one of the best hiking trails in Nelson. It's easier than Pulpit Rock hike and you can reach beautiful views very quickly but Lyons Bluff is still a moderate hike and there's optional longer hikes.

This is a pleasant experience and a fun way to get from the prestige to either the Chako Mika Mall or Lakeside Park. This restored 1906 electric streetcar runs on a track from Lakeside park in Fairview to the Prestige at the bottom of Downtown.

City/town information

Visit Ymir for a change of pace (or time, this town reminds me of a western movie at times). The Goods is the local hangout and corner store - find most anything you need there like groceries, made-to-order, takeout, booze, etc. On either side of it you’ll fond the local pub and bakery. There's a secret beach not far away too, it's got a diving board into a beautiful pristine pool.

Neighbourhoods

This is where Lakeside Park is as well as John's Walk, Queen E park (baseball), Selkirk College, the high school, Tennis Courts, Car Wash, Gas Stations, Junk Food Stops, Soccer Fields, Svoboda (great for dog walking and x-country skiing), and lots of residential.

The “Crag” is a climbing area, not a neighborhood but airbnb didn’t recognize Hall Siding (the neighborhood). Anyway, there’s a famous climbing cliff here! There’s also a hidden waterfall, some hard-to-find swimming pools, rails-to-trails for biking, running, walking, x-country skiing, snowshoeing, etc. It’s up in the mountains so you’ll get cooler temperatures in the summer and deep snow in the winter.

Favorite attractions

These are my favorite spots to visit.
Whitewater is our closest ski hill and world renowned for great powder. On snow days try to get there before 9am if you want a 1/2 decent parking spot.
