Awesome large state park, with different sets of waterfalls. Long park; use a car to get from one area to another. Bring good hiking shoes. Be sure to also see the railroad bridge over the largest falls, and the Glen Iris Inn. Hors d'oeuvres or dessert on the verandah is a special treat!

My favorite state park! Incredibly beautiful peaceful waterfalls and trails. Wear footwear that can get wet, and consider bringing a rain jacket. The gorge trail does have many steps. Great place to take vacation photos!
Note: The gorge trail is closed seasonally, from roughly end of October into May.

Beautiful state park. Note: call or look for updated information, as part of the gorge trail may be currently closed. Normally, the trail is hike-able from either the top (starting at the old mill) or from the bottom up (swimming area, in season).

Iconic, tallest waterfall, not to be missed. View the falls from the upper viewing area, and then drive down to the trail. Wooded trail is flat to the bottom of the falls. Walk part of the trail in the creek bed if you wish, great for exploring pets. One of the most accessible falls for those with mobility issues. On the other side of the road from the trail parking lot, more of Taughannock State Park gives you access to Cayuga Lake. Rent kayaks in season. 1 hour, 5 mins. from our home.

Less well-known falls, short hike in. Wear good footwear, and take extra caution after a lot of rainfall. (best viewing is after rainfall, though!). If you have mobility issues, consider Aunt Sarah's falls (viewable from car), or Shequaga Falls. In the Village of Montour Falls, just south of Watkins Glen.

The nature center may be closed these days, but the hiking trails are open. These are easy trails, not far from our home. We found many different mushrooms and fungi on our most recent visit, due to the rainfall this summer.
