Food scene

Chagford is a bustling old village with plenty of charm and some niche boutiques, not to mention a lovely sourdough bakery and organic farm shop - the Beehive

Our faviourite cafe in Crediton's Market Square, Devon. Eran is a welcoming host, with a simple middle eastern menu, his food never disappoints. They have won awards for being a family friendly cafe, with a kids (and baby) menu, play corner and breastfeeding friendly seats too. The Shakshooka is always tasty and the vegetarian lunch is always delicious. So are their drinks - everything is homemade fresh using local produce where possible. I just wish he ran cookery classes.

The couple who run The Old Inn are a great team and very welcoming hosts. If you're up for a posh dinner, then we recommend booking a table here. You pay for either a 2 or 3 course meal.

Crediton is a lovely local town, with lots of independent shops and a friendly family vibe. There is a wonderful market square where you can sit and enjoy a coffee or the market on a Saturday

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

The ultimate rummagers dream. If you like to sift through other peoples junk, then the local community recycling centre can hold some unknown treasures. They also have a shop in Chagford Square of 2nd hand clothes, and hand-restored old tools too.

Sightseeing

This is 2miles down the road. You can park and walk the grounds and see inside Englands newest castle, or walk the hunters path to Finlge Bridge pub along the river Teign...we like to do a circular that ends up with tea and cake at Drogo cafe.

Fingle Bridge is a great place to start a walk along the Teign Valley. The pub does standard food, but you can also take a picnic and sit in the meadow on the opposite river bank where there is an easy beach for paddling just by the bridge.

Recreation

A community run pool that is open in the summer season. Low chlorine levels due to the UV filter and it is filled with water from the river that is then returned back into the river once treated. Has a little shack selling snacks, ice cream and drinks. Great for a family swim or adult lanes in the evening (see the swallows chasing flies near by!).
