Shining Rock
There are three trails I know of to Shining Rock, none less than 7 mi round trip.
Sam Knob is in the Black Balsam area, off the Blue Ridge Parkway. Accessible in winter from Hwy 215 S of Canton, when the Parkway is closed.

Little Sam is not a short walk. It's farther than Sam, and an absolute must for high country forest. There's a spur on the way that adds an extra maybe 1.5 miles to go to Devil's Courthouse and back.

It's been years since I've been to the top. Mostly what people hike to is what's called Beautiful View, which is a local favorite, just below the peak. Last time I went to the top, it was a hard to locate rabbit trail, but it might have become better marked and blazed by now.

An 11 mi round trip, strenuous, for those who want to go to remote Cold Mountain, 6030 ft. Phenomenal. Or you do a two nighter loop that includes Shining Rock.

Falls coming down Cove Creek, located in Saluda Gorge. This is a place to be super careful. Dangerous, steep terrain hiking to the top of the falls. Getting to the bottom of the falls is a whole different trail, longer and a lot of big creek rock hopping and trekking. It is a seriously sobering place.

Falls coming down Cove Creek, located in Saluda Gorge. This is a place to be super careful. Dangerous, steep terrain hiking to the top of the falls. Getting to the bottom of the falls is a whole different trail, longer and a lot of big creek rock hopping and trekking. It is a seriously sobering place.
Two waterfalls, lower and upper, both stupendous. Easy to find near Old Fort, NC.
