Hiking

Hemlock, pine, and spruce forest with a walking trail by the river. Take a longer 1.5 mile loop or a shorter 1 mile loop. The terrain is mixed, with a well defined trail, and plenty of roots and occasional slants or inclines. Probably a "Midwestern intermediate" level trail. In wet weather wear boots. Recommend!

The Hodag...

Notice a few goofy looking monster creatures around town? Those are hodags, and they're emblematic of Rhinelander. Legend has it that they were spotted in the Northwoods centuries ago when the first settlers arrive here. We haven't seen a real one... yet. But they're all over town if you look for them!
