Home to a busy fleet of trawlers and boat builders, the village also has a marine aquarium and a disused but atmospheric outdoor swimming pool. It also has a fantastic cliff top golf course. Boat trips are also available to visit Troup Head an RSPB reserve featuring a huge breeding colony of gannets and in season puffin. That trip also takes you into Gamrie Bay, home of our cottage.

Banff is the main services town near Gardenstown, with supermarkets and takeaway's. Banff Link's is a beautiful beach with a lovely play park, and another one can be found at Duff House, the northern arm of the National Gallery collection.

Just 5 minutes drive from the village is this delightful secluded bay. The perfect place for families to pitch up and relax and enjoy a swim while dad fishes off the rocks.

Location for the movie Local Hero, with the famous telephone box still there, this collection of harbour and houses beneath the cliffs makes for a lovely stop off point. Throw some pebbles into the sea or just watch the waves crashing, it's a great spot to relax.

One of UK'S biggest fishing ports, wander around the harbour and experience the sight of some of the huge vessels, and soak up the atmosphere. Just off the harbour is a huge, beautiful sandy beach which is becoming more and more popular with surfers. Also in the town is a Heritage Museum and the National Lighthouse Museum.

The village has great facilities including cafés, pubs,ice cream and fish and chips. Eat those on the Green above the beach and watch for dolphins which are regularly seen here.

A longer drive away but well within a days trip is the Queen's famous royal estate. Nearby Crathes Castle is also well worth a visit for it's beautiful garden's and house and is one of many on The Castle Trail.
