Sightseeing

A trip to Dursey Ireland on Irelands only cable car has become a ' must do' for most visitors to the Beara Peninsula. The cable car ride itself lasts around 10mins each way, taking you over the Dursey sound where dolphins can be often seen. Dursey island measures 6.5 km by 1.5kms and is a beautiful, tranquil place , a paradise for walkers and birds watchers. Birds, such as guillemots and puffins can be seen and the island is also a breeding ground for the Chough. There are no pubs, cafes or restaurants on the island ( although Roseary is often selling refreshments from her trailer where you get on/off), so best to take water etc. with you.

Just a couple of kms away is Dzorghen Buddhist meditation centre. Built almost on a cliff edge, the setting is beautiful and the views over the Atlantic from their cafe, extraordinary. Visitors can experience a free, hour long, meditation which is performed twice daily in The Shrine Room. If you have a spare hour or two, well worth a visit.
