West End Food scene

Roatan's cuisine like other Caribbean islands with shared history of Afro-Caribbean people and English pirates & settlers has its roots in Africa, England and Latin America. We love seafood and our vegetables are primary root vegetables, plus: green bananas, plantain, chattas and breadfruits which we call " bread kind." SEAFOOD WE LOVE & HOW WE EAT IT! FISH: steamed, fried, minced or in a brown gravy and tea soup. CONCH: conch soup, stewed conch, conch fritter or balls and most recently conch ceviche. SOUP We love soup and eat it year-round. SHRIMP Our favorite shrimp dish is coconut shrimp and in soups. Traditional island seafood stew Known as; coconut dinner, tapado or rundown is coconut milk-based s with fish & salted pork, root vegetables such as: yucca, malanga/taro, green bananas, ripe plantains and chatta or corn dumplings is inspired by the Garifuna traditional dish, the Machuca. Machuca is made similarly, with the mayor difference being it comes with a large mashed (machuca)plantain dumpling and no other vegetables. Fritters for breakfast with homemade jams, and tons of exotic bush cakes. BALEDAS Large flour or corn tortilla filled with refried beans, avocados, scrambled egg, chicken, beef or chorizo topped with a grated hard cheese or Honduran crema and pickled onions & veggies. Makes for an excellent and affordable breakfast. Baleadas are a relatively NEW addition to the island- brought over by the large ladino population from mainland Honduras who have made Roatan their home over the 20 yrs. These are a few of our favorite traditional foods!. However, West End Village has a plethora of restaurants from which to choose!
A West End favorite , and its very close to Penthouse Dola, the owner is a native who has done an excellent job of creating delicious, but simple food, in a family & pets friendly environment at a great value. We also recommend her curry chicken and key lime pie is to die for! Best rotisserie chicken on the island.

Attraction worth visiting, especially if you are traveling with kids! Book a tour and request pickup, drive, walk or catch a water taxi from West End to the park, there isn't a dock, so you will have to get out the water taxi on the shore...
