Breakfast any time of day and night!! Another “local chain” that is near my apartment. Their mimosas are good and the special pancakes are always delicious. My favorite is when the have the lemon poppyseed pancakes available. They have a bar that is nice to sit at and people watch! (I like sitting at a bar if I’m solo traveling). They also have outdoor seating available.

Local, responsible fast food chain. Short and simple menu! I get their veggie burger more often than I’d like to admit. Ask them for a paper straw if you’re so inclined.

You’ll notice Austin is super casual. Not many people wear heels unless they’re going out or having a special event. And you might be walking a lot!

Check the weather
It’s hot and sunny most of the year here! Bring sunblock and a water bottle. However, Texas is known for is crazy unpredictable weather. A couple of days ago we got light snow overnight out of now where. It’s now a comfortable 70 degrees out. I have no idea. Can’t control it! I’ll keep an umbrella for you just in case.

People are pretty friendly!
There’s a lot of people moving to Austin, so I can’t say this about everyone! But people are friendly and relaxed. They may smile and wave at you, or give you a nod. That’s just saying “hi.” You might experience someone going out of their way to help someone, or you!

People are on their phone all the time. It’s safe to have it out while walking around the city and on public transportation in Austin.

Look this up to confirm before going! Bullock Texas History museum- free first Sunday every month 12-5pm. Blanton Museum of Art- free Thursday’s 10-5pm. Open til 9pm every third Thursday. Mexi-Arte museum- free every Sunday 12-5pm. The Contemporary Austin Laguna Gloria- free Tuesday’s 9-5pm. Free drop in tours 1pm first Sunday every month.

Free outdoors!
Go trek around one of the many green belt areas (my favorite). Or be close to downtown and rent a bike and tour around. Run around Town Lake (Lady Bird Lake). It’s all so good.
