The most famous part of the Sarajevo. It is the heart of the old town and whole city. Mehmed Pasha Kukavica designed the wooden fountain in 1753. It provides locals with drinking water. During the evening, Sebilj lights up, creating a magical atmosphere against the backdrop of surrounding Ottoman buildings. Also it is place where you can see a thousand of the pigeons at any time. (About 18 minutes by foot from apartment or four tram stops).

Bascarsija, or Old Bazaar, is the historical and cultural centre of Sarajevo. Built in the 15th-century after Isa-Beg Ishakovic founded the town, little has changed in the last 500 years. Cobblestone streets bend and twist and alleys branch in all directions. Historical attractions include Gazi Husrev-beg’s Mosque, the Sebilj Brunnen Fountain, and Copper Street. A fire in the 19th-century destroyed about 50% of Bascarsija. (About 15 minutes by foot from apartment or two tram stops).

This Mosque is a major landmark and the most important Ottoman structure. Persian architect Adzem Esir Ali designed it in honour of then-Governor Gazi Husrev Beg, in 1530. Architecturally, the distinctive multiple domes correspond to Classical Ottoman styles. Damage during the Siege of Sarajevo destroyed most of the original masonry. (About 15 minutes by foot from apartment).

The Sarajevo Tunnel, also known as Tunel spasa, English: Tunnel of rescue) and Tunnel of Hope, was a tunnel constructed between March and June 1993 during the Siege of Sarajevo in the midst of the Bosnian War. It was built by the Bosnian Army in order to link the city of Sarajevo, which was entirely cut off by Serbian forces, with Bosnian-held territory on the other side of the Sarajevo Airport, an area controlled by the United Nations. The tunnel linked the Sarajevo neighborhoods of Dobrinja and Butmir (that's why it's also called "Tunnel D-B"), allowing food, war supplies, and humanitarian aid to come into the city, and allowing people to get out. The tunnel became a major way of bypassing the international arms embargo and providing the city defenders with weaponry. Ticket price - 10KM (konvertibilna marka) for one person. Every day - 09:00 - 16:30

Sacred Heart Cathedral was built in honor of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, an important Catholic concept. The building is in the Neo-Gothic style, with Romanesque Revival elements. The building was awarded to the Viennese contractor Baron Karl Schwarz with supervising architect Josip Vancaš. He modeled it after the Notre-Dame in Dijon (France). Work began on 25 August 1884, and was completed on 9 November 1887. The Bishop of Dubrovnik was present for the consecration on 14 September 1889. Peace demonstration in front of the cathedral on September 1991 prior to the outbreak of the Bosnian War. The building was damaged during the Siege of Sarajevo, but not completely destroyed, and the damage has since been repaired. The building is often considered as a symbol of the city: The design above the door to the Cathedral is part of the flag and seal of Sarajevo Canton and the Romanesque towers are featured on the flag and coat of arms of Sarajevo. (About 12 minutes by foot from apartment).

The Yellow Fortress in Vratnik district, named after the yellow rocks it’s made from, towers over eastern Sarajevo. In 1697, the unprotected city felt the wrath of the invading Austrians, who sacked the town. Gazi Ahmed Pasha Rustempašić Skopljak, the then Ottoman Governor, built the Yellow Fortress to protect against future attacks. Today, locals and tourists climb up to view a spectacular sunset over the city. (About 20 minutes by foot from apartment).
