Museo de arte
“Surely "the" museum to visit in Barcelona. For the artist and for the building. Imagine Montcada Street, in the Gothic quarter, five mansions united to form a museum, lovely to visit. About Pablo Ruiz Picasso the museum is essential to understand his formative years. The genius of the young artist is revealed to us through more than 3,500 works that make up this permanent collection.”

“The Museu Diocesà, which incorporates the 4th-century Roman tower and city walls, brings together a collection of over 3,000 works of art, including sculptures, paintings, gold and silverware, ceramics, and a variety of religious clothing, with important examples from the Visigothic and Roman era until the 21st century. Gaudí Exhibition Center-Diocesan Museum, featuring the "Walking with Gaudí" exhibition, a unique collection of pieces, objects and original documents by the brilliant, world-renowned architect. The exhibition showcases almost a century of international research on Gaudí: the man himself, his work and his revolutionary working methods. It was built between 1905 and 1908 for the Orfeó Català, a choral society founded in 1891 that was a leading force in the Catalan cultural movement that came to be known as the Renaixença (Catalan Rebirth).”

“The Arc de Triomf of Barcelona, unlike other arcs with a marked military character, was created to commemorate a civil landmark, serving as a monumental entrance to the Universal Exhibition of Barcelona in 1888. Today, it has sometimes served as a goal in various sporting events, the most important being the Barcelona marathon. ”

Bibliotecas

Library
“The library opened in 1910, when Francesca Bonnemaison established the Institute of Culture and the Women’s Library, the first in Europe. This institution offers women’s education and access to culture via classes. It was so successful that in 1922 it moved to its current, larger location in the La Ribera neighborhood. It still works to defend women’s rights. In addition to the library, the building houses the Office for the Promotion of Policies for Men’s and Women’s Equality, the Women’s School, and the Francesca Bonnemaison Women’s Culture Center.”

College Library
“The library is located in the bowels of an 1874 water tank designed in part by Antoni Gaudí. The forgotten tank once supplied water to the Parc de la Ciutadella until it was purchased in the 1990s by Pompeu Fabra University and rehabilitated into a modern library. But for the addition of skylights, the original structure was lovingly preserved. The library gets very full during the school semester, so I’d recommend visiting when the students are on vacation. Coming here is like visiting an underground world.”
