“This place is pretty popular right now. It has a high end feel, but you can still wear a button down or dress/jeans. You often will see exotic cars parked out front and the clientele reflects that. If you are in DC on a cool night, appetizers are excellent out on the front patio. High-end cocktails are the norm, but you may see some of the younger crowd line up some shots later in the evening. ”

“Looking for a break place to get a low-key lunch and settle in to read a book or chat with a friend? Tryst has a vegetarian and vegan-friendly menu with lots of options for meat-eaters as well. The large restaurant also features large couches so you can lounge while you sip on an incredible chai latte or beer!”

“A large space that houses a coffee shop with indoor & outdoor seating, as well as a full-service bar upstairs (which serves brunch on weekends). It serves breakfast sandwiches all day (!), has good coffee (with latte art), and a variety of other sandwiches/salads after 11 am. There is metered parking available.”

“Founding Farmers is a local chain with only a couple locations throughout the DMV and owned by the same pair that owns Farmers, Fishers, Bakers in Georgetown. The menu is SO good and with a lot of options. But be prepared with a reservation or you'll be waiting a while. ”

“DC’s rep as a well-read city is plain to see at Kramerbooks, where voracious readers fill up on political studies essays, literature, novels and travel guides, before filling up on food from the open-late, on-site Afterwords cafe. Another reason to visit: the steady lineup of readings from local and renowned authors.”

“Washington, DC's oldest bar, established in 1856. The perfect place for early morning breakfast or post-theater supper. Best Raw Bar in the city with oysters from both coasts, clams, shrimp and Maine lobster. Open for breakfast, lunch, dinner and late-night dining daily, and weekend brunch. Around the corner from the White House, and across the street from the Treasury. Valet parking available every evening and all day Sunday, $10.”

“Georgetown Cupcake may have the diehard reality TV fans, but Baked & Wired serves some of the best and biggest cupcakes around. There’s also a counter full of other baked goods as well as espresso, tea, and coffee. Don’t miss the cookie ice cream sandwiches during the summer months. Go there for: Pastries without a line.”

“Care for a side of socialism with that? Friendly service, leftist leanings and great food and drinks, where the activists gather to eat, subvert the system and plan the revolution. Monday Nights - Open Mic, Tuesday is Comedy Night! Several unique locations throughout DC area, but this one is five minutes away. Owned by rabid social entrepreneur and someday mayor of Washington, DC, Andy Shalal, who says Busboys is "a community where racial and cultural connections are consciously uplifted . . . a place to take a deliberate pause and feed your mind, body and soul… a space for art, culture and politics to intentionally collide . . . we believe that by creating such a space we can inspire social change and begin to transform our community and the world."”

“If you are a whiskey fan, this is a great spot for you. They have (literally) hundreds of whiskeys to try and is located in the Adams Morgan area which is a little eccentric and another neat area of DC to check out.”

“Bar and Lounge spot... gets really busy on weekends. 21-30 crowd/post-college hangout. The music is usually good and the rooftop is small but nice. It gets kind of wild on some nights. Great place to watch a sporting event during the day.”

“Whitlow's has a regular bar downstairs with several separate areas and live music on many nights. The bar is decent at best but rooftop is the real gem here. It has a tiki theme and even though it's in the middle of Clarendon, it gives off a beach vibe. I wouldn't say that the food or drinks are particularly good, but it's a fun place to go. It is also walking distance from a plethora of other bars and restaurants so you really can't lose.”
