Places to visit while you are in the area:

Lake Lure
is a well-known destination for thousands of visitors each year from around this country, Canada, and abroad. The Town of Lake Lure is a beautiful place to visit and a wonderful place to live; it is the home of over 1,050 permanent residents. Located in western North Carolina, the town sits in the heart of Hickory Nut Gorge, east of Asheville. The Rocky Broad River winds its way through a series of rapids down through Hickory Nut Gorge, and the crystal clear water flows through the valley that feeds Lake Lure. The Town of Lake Lure encompasses 13.25 square miles including the lake with a large central body of deep water, three long bays, an island of seven acres and many small bays and inlets with a background of forest clad hills and mountains. The climate is unusually temperate as Lake Lure lies in the “thermal belt” of the western North Carolina mountains and foothills.

The lake is the number one attraction and the reason so many families visit Lake Lure year after year. National Geographic has called Lake Lure one of the most beautiful man-made lakes in the world. Visitors come to enjoy the 720 acres of lake, sparkling clean beach area, and the incredible Blue Ridge mountain range including Chimney Rock.

History records that the idea of a resort community in western North Carolina was the vision of Dr. Lucius B. Morse. Soliciting the financial backing of his brothers, Dr. Morse purchased 400 acres around Chimney Rock in 1902 to create Chimney Rock Park. Additional acreage was acquired over the next several years to bring the total to 8,000 acres. Dr. Morse conceived the idea of building a dam on the Rocky Broad River to create a lake and a year-round resort. The dam was completed in September 1926, forming the lake which was named Lake Lure by Dr. Morse’s wife, Elizabeth Parkenson. The Town of Lake Lure was incorporated in 1927.

The Town of Lake Lure is a great location for sports including swimming, golfing, hiking or serious rock climbing. You can enjoy a wide variety of water activities, ranging from canoeing and fishing to pleasure boating and water skiing. Both motor and non-motorized boats enjoy the lake; however, a lake permit is required to place a private boat on the lake.

Definitely a little bit of a drive from a lot of things in town, but the location was absolutely beautiful and the house was clean and accommodated all 8 of us easily. The back porch was great and there was a little creek/river in the backyard and we found some great rocks in!

Hi there Ray. Thanks so much for the review. When we bought the house we contacted the county to get approval to build steps down to the river and they won't allow it, unfortunately. No construction is allowed on the riverbank. I hope you all arrived home safely.

The hot water was an issue so plan accordingly for showers. The dishwasher wasn't working and pancakes were impossible because of the uneven stove. However, they had a waffle maker that saved the day! I loved that there was coffee and laundry detergent along with all the other basics. The place was clean and overall, a good spot! The kids loved the river and had tons of fun!

If you're looking for secluded, you've stumbled upon the right listing. The house is great for a small to medium-sized family to hang out for a few days in the mountains. The river behind the house provides lots of exploring/entertainment for everyone. The house is a bit secluded from stores, but a short 15 minute drive puts you at Chimney Rock for additional activities and a place to pick up supplies. Asheville is about a 30-40 minute drive, but it's a beautiful ride! The back porch is great for grilling and hanging out, just make sure to bring a few citronella candles! We had no mosquito issues running a couple candles each day :) The host is super responsive and helpful, she accommodated all of our requests and we couldn't have had a better time.

I rented this house with several friends as an alternative to our usual camping for this year and it was so worth it. The house was exceptionally clean, comfortable, and equipped with everything we needed. The river in the back was beautiful and tranquil and the house was also close to Lake Lure and downtown Black Mountain. We had an excellent time. Thank you so much.

We had an absolutely wonderful time at the Broad River House. We stayed for a week with two families - 4 adults and 2 kids. The layout of the house was perfect and the beds are super comfortable. We loved the fire pit by the river and the front and back porches are furnished very nicely. There is tons of stuff to do in Black Mountain and Ashville. We enjoyed visiting the Biltmore, hiking, shopping, and tubing down the French Broad River. We also had some great food and tons of great local breweries!
