Morpeth a pretty, historic, small market town with a great selection of cafés, restaurants and pubs, is only a few minutes’ drive away, and other local amenities including a swimming pool and gym are available in nearby Ashington only 1¾ miles away. Newbiggin-by-the-Sea is just 5 miles, for a stroll along the promenade or a couple of hours on the beach in the bay. The Heritage Coast, where miles of golden beaches and friendly villages appeal to all ages is only a few miles further away, where you can head north and perhaps stop off at Craster for famous kippers, drop into Bamburgh Castle and carry on a little further to Holy Island. Morpeth train station, 3½ miles, is perfect to take you to Newcastle, Durham, Edinburgh or York should you wish to explore further whilst staying in Northumberland. Bothal Barns Drift is in a good central location to explore the many delights of what is reputedly the friendliest county in England. There is easy road access for the Heritage Coast, Northumberland National Park, Alnwick Castle, Newcastle, 20 miles, Kielder Water, 47 miles and Hadrian’s Wall with Vindolanda, 50 miles.
