Describe your self! We Airbnb to meet interesting people.
Even a walk to the house is beautiful -- it's like a botanical garden. There are 10+ restaurants within 2 blocks. Our home is cozy, fun, and feels like a family. We dance while cooking, read/work, and have philosophical/scientific discussions. We are grad students and professionals in our 20s, 30s (AI leader, hydrogen entrepreneur, UX coder, philosophy PhD, and an artist/pre-med). We are well traveled, well read, and adventurous.

El alojamiento
The house is in the heart of the Gourmet Ghetto and within blocks of Berkeley campus and Downtown Berkeley BART station. Chez Panisse is right around the block, as is the Cheese Board and a number of great supermarkets and farmers' markets. We have a beautiful, large backyard with a garden, fruit trees, and a decorative fire pit. In the house, there is a large and cozy living room, a kitchen with gas stove, two full bathrooms, and a colorful breakfast room. We have two porches: one has a rocking chair and the other one a grill and a table; they are great places to hang out. Hardwood floors throughout. DSL wireless. A house cleaner comes by twice a month, so the house is generally clean. We have a TV but it is used exclusively to watch DVDs and streams. There's a piano (an old one--think New Orleans brothel circa 1900) if you're musically inclined. The neighborhood is blissfully quiet.

Berkeley, California, Estados Unidos

The neighborhood is called gourmet ghetto. It's close to everything nice and really feels like a heart of berkeley. There is a variety of plants on the street. Everything is within a walking distance. People are relaxed like on a vacation. We are a block away from the street with cafes and restaurants. You get the best of both worlds -- it's not noisy and close to all the fun.

I have been in science for a while (theoretical quantum chemistry), i like coding, arts, dancing music, philosophy, applied psychology, film, sports, outdoor festivals, and a lot of other stuff. I'm very easy to get along -- I have a decent sense when to be proper and chill or when to be fun and direct. I love giving positive energy to people around me. host/guest: responsible and considerate. movies, herzog, bergman, peter greenaway and matthew barney are some of my favorites. If you know them, you get the idea. music: I used to host a radio show where I would play avant-garde, folk and minimal techno. so my taste is pretty divers. ricardo villalobos can make an audiophile out of anyone. books: from little prince to arcades project

Durante tu estadía

We are a friendly group of people in our mid-20s and early 30s--graduate students and professionals. We like to chat, go to events, play board games, and host occasional parties both raucous and restrained, but our household is not the only thing in any of our lives. We don't expect hours of conversations but it would be nice to spend 15 min getting to know each other. We might be hosting an event during your stay. On Sunday mornings, we typically have brunches with 20+ people.

About us:
Kirill:
I finished my postdoc in theoretical chemistry a few weeks ago at UCB. I’m currently working in AI and fintech, and have a bunch of side projects in cannabis, arts, and writing. I’m originally from Russia, but I lived on the East Coast for the past ten years. I’m pretty open, social, and flexible as a person. My interests include sports (MMA, endurance, yoga), dance (tango, salsa), arts, music (radio DJ), projects (web and machine learning), non-fiction audiobooks, movies (especially by Herzog and Bergman), figure drawing, and going out. For fun, I have recently been working on start-up projects and exploring the SF music and art scene. At home, I like to randomly dance while experimenting with healthy cooking, and I like having deep conversations, from time to time.

Urte:
I'm a Ph.D. student in philosophy. I did my MSc in cognitive science and psychiatry, undergrad in (psycho)linguistics. That is Edinburgh and Cambridge respectively. Which means I've spent the past few years in the UK, although I'm Lithuanian originally.
I'm a bit of a film buff, you might say. Mostly arthouse (Bela Tarr, anyone?) and oldies (German expressionism +). I listen to free-jazz, late classical, also things like gregorian chant, traditional music from all over and so on. Good literature, good nonfiction. I'm almost overly curious, as I'm obsessed with running round open lectures on all sorts of subjects. I suppose I'm interested in everything . . . well, interesting. I used to do a fair amount of contemporary dance. Not so much anymore but I certainly enjoy bursting into a spontaneous dance from time to time. I tend to frequent art galleries, concerts, the theatre and suchlike. Alternatively, just stay in with a massive pot of tea (I mean it) and a book or go for a walk in some forest.

Ivar:
I am from Estonia. My dream was to become a world famous artist, but as my parents told me that I can not paint, I became a random chemist. Currently working in UC Berkeley as post-doc but I am spending lot of time with my other personal and non-personal projects (start-up) so someone can think I have a randomizer insomnia.
If you like atmospheric electronic music, Detroit techno and snowboarding (i was on the Estonian national team) -- you are my soulmate. In the bay area, I like to look for artistic events, go to start-up mixers, and organize trips into nature.

Some Important Considerations:
- No smoking in the house. No hard drugs.
- We do a fair amount of cooking in the house, also listening to music while cooking. This often (read: always) results in micro-dance parties.
- Ours is a green household. We compost, recycle and use ecological cleaning products.
- Kitchen and common areas need to be clean; however, in general, we are laid back
- There is often loud music and dancing. However, people do a fair amount of studying and reading; even law students get their readings done :-) Ideally, we would like to host fun, clean, and interesting people.
- The house is sex-positive and LGBT friendly; and vegan-friendly (some of us do eat animal products).
- We host BBQs, arthouse film nights, book swaps from time to time and very occasionally parties, you can ask if there's anything coming up during your stay.
