Sant'Ambrogio is one of the jewels in the Sicilian crown. Although a 'typical' Italian village, this is no ordinary holiday destination by Sicily's standards. There's something special about Sant'Ambrogio. It is real and authentic. Thanks to the lack of hotels and commercialisation, this village retains it's original and unique traditions and atmosphere. Guests, both international and Italian, prefer this tranquil secret hideaway to escape the summer crowds of nearby Cefalù.

El alojamiento
Situated right in the heart of the village, the completely renovated property benefits from a close proximity to the local food shop, a 'trattoria' style restaurant, a pizzeria, 2 bars and a church. It's also just a short walk to the local beach.
Cefalù, the nearest large town, is short drive away along an incredibly beautiful coastal road which winds its way along several quiet beaches and bays.
The house is very clean and tidy and is decorated in a contemporary style with very modern facilities. However it retains many typical Sicilian features: that is, tiled floors to help keep you cool in the hot summer months, practical kitchen (Sicilians love to cook!) and outdoor seating to make the most of the gorgeous weather, fresh air and warm evenings. There is good natural light and ventilation.

Help is never far away as the owners of the property live very near.
Other than when you need assistance, you will be left to your own devices and at liberty to enjoy the space as if it were your own home away from home.

Tutto l'appartamento è a disposizione, compreso un piccolo spazio esterno dove poter trascorrere momenti di relax.

Otros aspectos para tener en cuenta
The village, although small, has a surprising number of 'tourist attractions' in the immediate and surrounding areas. Choose from horse riding or mountain biking in the nearby Madonie National Park, a visit to the very local fresh cheese-maker, or guided walks around the old mediaeval parts of Cefalu. Walking tours of other places including 'La Rocca' can also be arranged.

For those feeling very fit, a 500-step steep decent to the 'Gola Tiberius' (literally the throat of Tiberius) - a deep gorge carved through the landscape by the river. In the summer months this is a dry river bed which can be explored on horse-back.

A short drive along the coast will bring you to Santo Stefano di Camastra - one of the most important centres for the colourful traditional hand-made ceramics in Sicily.

Fifteen minutes inland into the unspoiled countryside will bring you to the wonderful market town of Castelbuono - most famous for its imposing stone castle built in an Arab/Norman style by the wealthy Ventimiglia family in the 14th century. The breathtaking baroque chapel on the top floor is unmissable and worth the entrance fee alone.

This bustling town (manageable on foot) also boasts a world-famous cake shop supplying a wide range of delicious pannetone and other locally made sweet delicacies to an international client base. There are also plenty of restaurants, cafés, bars, gelaterias, pizzerias etc. to satisfy every Italian food-loving palate. The cobbled streets are lined with well-kept shops of every kind including locally-produced wines, cheeses, salamis and bread. Castelbuono is also blessed with several beautiful baroque churches - once you poke your head through the rather missable outer doors you will be amazed.

Other nearby wonders to be explored by car (then foot) include the ancient hill-top towns of Pollina, Gangi (recently named 'Borgo Più Bello d’Italia' (the prettiest village in all of Italy) for its artistic qualities, culture, local handicraft, traditions and good food, and St. Mauro Castelverde. Each of these destinations offer panoramic views of the Madonie National Park and/or coast from their vertiginous positions.

If you have time, a boat trip to the famous Aeolian Islands is well worth it. This small volcanic archipelago features the regularly erupting live volcano on Stromboli - best seen in the evening from one of the many island-hopping boat cruise options. Volcanic mud baths, sulphuric and steamy crater walks, fresh sea food and relaxing spas are also part of the local attractions. As if the stunning natural beauty of the uniquely individual islands wasn't enough!

An hour's train ride into Palermo gives you the chance to visit some of the best-kept secrets of the Med region. Rich palaces, ornate churches and chapels plus a busy commercial centre are great for a day trip.

Sant'Ambrogio has been featured in many international publications as an ideal holiday destination, and for good reason.
This is a village with 'civic pride' - the houses are well cared for and the charming cobbled streets are clean, tidy and even have the occasional flower pot. Traditional street lamps light the way at night, and the ambience is one of calm, order, tranquility and civility. Sant'Ambrogio is considered an 'eco' village thanks to efforts by local residents to promote sustainability and preserve as many traditional methods of food sourcing and waste management as possible.
The envied location near beach, town and the huge Madonie National Park make this the smart choice. Half-way along the North coast of Sicily, it is ideally situated for exploration of this most fascinating and beguiling island. Once visited, Sicily will be under your skin forever.
In Sant'Ambrogio, you won't be overrun by tourists or noisy clubs - this is a 'real' local community away from the crowds with just a few choice options for guest accommodation.
The village sits above a long, safe-swimming, pebble bay and has views of the nearest volcanic islands across the clear, shimmering blue waters of the Tyhrennian Sea.
For lovers of good food and wine, a short drive inland into the verdant countryside of the Madonie will offer two notable gastronomic delights: Firstly the 5-star hotel 'Abbazia Santa Anastasia' (a converted abbey, now a renowned organic/biodynamic vineyard, restaurant and Relais style accommodation. Then there's the 3-star Tenuta Luogo Marchese - another fabulous rustic hideaway with a restaurant and horse riding. Wild boar is often on the menu.
The 'Osteria Bacchus' right in the village offers delicious fresh food for lunch and dinner, specialising in locally caught fish and seafood - the view from their terrace is spectacular.
The local beaches are safe and have very clean waters.
