A cozy, roomy mid-century modern home that's been freshly redone, in midtown 2 miles from our beautiful riverfront and 7.5 miles from Wrightsville Beach.
It has that 1951 writer's retreat feel, with lots of room for a family or a gathering - can sleep 6 or 7. This is a quiet, crime-free neighborhood, plenty of free parking, within swift reach of the airport (but not in the flight path) and all the quick roads to our many beaches.
Fenced-in backyard, barbecue. Wilmington at its best.
Be a local!
We loved this bright, welcoming house the minute we saw it. It's like walking into 1951, but with modern heating, cooling and an upgraded kitchen that keeps true to its era. It needed a lot of work - all new floors, countertops, paint, yard, shed, etc. My favorite part was making the half garage into a cozy hangout spot with a new entry into the end of the house.
The knotty pine room - planks, not paneling, including the ceiling - has built in shelves and new, plush carpeting that gives it a sound and feel that is so soothing and inspiring.
There are so many spaces inside and out for relaxing, visiting and, I believe, writing.
I (Mark) write for a living and consider this house a wonder.
It's why we called it the Perry Mason House from day one. It evokes the Earle Stanley Gardner era of powerful cars, broad shouldered men and wasp-waisted women from the 50s.
Disponible para huéspedes
You'll have endless parking in this big, tree-shaded lot in a wonderful mid-town neighborhood between the beaches and downtown.
The backyard has an old-school waist-high chain link fence that will contain children and an obedient dog.
Atención a los huéspedes
Our other house is nearby, down by the riverfront.
We are both excellent cooks and grillers (we have cooked for a local artists retreat) and are available to prepare meals as needed. We are friendly with the best butcher, if you want a memorable dinner from the grill.
We have all fishing gear, two surfboards and two four-wheel drive vehicles and beach passes so we can drive you out on the sand at Carolina Beach or Fort Fisher for fishing or a cookout.
If you're having a reunion, our house downtown has available space for two or three extra people on the main floor, with living room, grand kitchen, huge full bath, a front porch with a swing, back deck and a giant fenced- in back yard (a full extra lot) with room for off-street parking. (We mostly live upstairs, which is like a separate house.)
We are a young, active couple, age 60, who love cooking, fishing and Wilmington life.
We know this town like few people.

The downtown area - waterfront, restaurants, bars - is two miles away. Wrightsville Beach is 15 minutes (7.5 miles) or so away, depending on traffic. Carolina Beach is 25 minutes away. Topsail Island, 30 or 35 minutes.
We are a two miles from the airport, but the flight path doesn't effect us.
Our preference would be for couples or a family looking to enjoy the wonders of Wilmington.
But this house has room for entertaining or a reunion, with all of its seating spaces inside and out. But we're not looking for frat parties, destruction or upsetting the neighbors. We have a couple with child next door.
We're responsible airbnb users and expect the same.
No smoking inside. Lots of room for that outside.
We love our house.
