Unfortunately, we had a late season blizzard arrive when JJ was visiting.
Room 1 on the first floor has pros and cons as I outline in the listing but it was hard to anticipate such cold weather so late in the season.
I did provide a floor heater to provide more heat to the room and blanket. This room is located next to the laundry room which doesn’t have a radiator since it was a restaurant kitchen for 35 of the houses 143 years. I did have the laundry Room curtained off but with the blizzard and low temperature, there was a cool breeze.
I’m looking into ways to either close off this room or just retire it to an office area.
Because of some of the cons for the room (one of them being the need of a portable heater if the temperature is below 20 degrees and the room is at 70 degrees) this room is $20 less a night than my next least expensive room. The room is cheap for these reasons and I would have hoped not to receive a 4 rating for some things since They were disclosed and compensated for by providing a lower room rate.
The only thing more I can do is highlight the pros and cons more than several times and point out that’s why the rate for the room is significantly lower than my other rooms.
I’d also suggest if a person has a problem with any of the disclosed information and would still feel they’d be uncomfortable and complain about the room by giving low ratings, they shouldn’t rent the room.
I don’t understand how you can complain about something that you accepted once you chose to rent the room especially when it was much less expensive than my other rooms and rooms in the area. It’s the old adage, you get what you pay for.
Even though there are some cons for this room, the pros are that it has a private powder room, bedroom and an extra room, 15x17 to use for doing work, reading, eating, close to the kitchen and dinning room, no other guests on that floor, close to the entrance, etc.. Even though the room is a little cooler, I provided blankets and the floor heater. If my guest was still to cold with these items in a 70degree room, I could have provided another heater and blanket. I wasn’t told even though I asked every time I saw him and asked if everything was okay.
I also sent him messages daily.
Although I try to provide and disclose everything I have (not to mention all the extra amenities, detailed information on places to eat, things to do, events, daily weather forecast and a full continental breakfast daily) I guess there’s always someone that will complain no matter how low the cost and how many extras are provided.
Everyone’s entitled to their opinion but as a SuperHost and someone that’s consistently been rated 5 except for this person and one other person (that received a free room), I have to realize there’s people that are never satisfied, even if they receive it for free or at a very low rate.
Some people may not understand why I write such a lengthy reply to a 4 out of 5 rating but they have to realize that I’m not a chain hotel nor do I have Invester’s. This is my home and I provide a very lovely and clean home to share with travelers looking for very low rates.
This room only cost this guest $43 a night in a major city. Hotel rates start at $275 a night located near me. My home is a very beautiful Victorian, 143 year old home. It’s very difficult for me to understand receiving anything lower than a 5 in any category for this room and the service’s I provided for $43 a night.
