Qué vas a hacer

A Ten Apple Farm goat hike is a two hour recreational and educational goat experience. You'll meet your hosts (and our herd of Alpine dairy goats), and hear about their 15 years of experience with goats and living on a small family farm. Once we've met the goats and other animals residents of the farm, we’ll set off on a hike through the Ten Apple Farm woods with the goats. The hike consists of an approximately one mile loop trail through our woods on fairly well maintained trails. Along the way we’ll talk about goats as pack animals and you’ll learn a thing or two about raising and caring for goats. There's lots of time for interacting with the goats, asking questions, or just soaking in the Maine woods and these adorable, fun animals. We end the experience with fresh goat milk and homemade cookies!

Please note: Due to COVID-19 safety protocols, we can only do goat milking lessons with private groups, and can only have 4-5 people in the barn at a time. Thank you for understanding.

Please note: On the hike there is some steep terrain. Children must be at least 5 years old and accompanied by an adult. (Children under 4 must be carried).
Other things to note
The hike is not strenuous, but there is a little bit of steep terrain in 2 spots. We have rope railings on the trail to assist with getting up and down in those spots, but guests who have bad knees, hips, or other difficulty mobility-wise may not find this to be an appropriate activity.

Dónde vas a estar

A Ten Apple Farm goat hike starts at our 1901 traditional New England connected Farmhouse and homestead. We have spent the past 14 years restoring the homestead's agricultural heritage. We are a diversified farm, so there's a little bit of everything here, and something for everyone: goats, pigs, sheep, poultry, a large garden, fruit trees, and 18 acres of beautiful Maine woods and trails, on which we hike with the goats.

This experience was simply amazing! Karl and Margaret are kind hosts, knowledgeable, and welcoming. They take the time to interact meaningfully with hikers and answer any question you ask them. They’re very engaging - my wife and I love farming and sustainable lifestyles so Margaret and Karl showed us around their little vegetable farm as well. They’re just so nice and they really care about what they’re doing. We will definitely be back!

You must try this experience! You may think there wouldn’t be much to do but hanging with the goats is actually pretty awesome. Meeting other animals was a fun surprise as well. Also the owners are extremely nice and make you feel like a friend. Fun to meet new people that go along on the walk with you.

We had a great time! Karl and Margaret provided a really unique experience. Weather was a challenge--cold rainy day, but they pulled out all the stops to make it a great experience for us including homemade treats, baby goats, goat milking, goat hiking, baby goat bottle feeding and more. Two of my party were gluten intolerant--we let them know ahead of time--and they even made up gluten free muffins as part of the treats. They truly went above and beyond. If you are on the fence about this--go for it!

Karl and Margaret were the best hosts! Despite the rainy weather, they made sure we still had a great time at their farm. They shared with us some great stories that were very inspiring and taught us about their animals that we interacted with. We also loved the home baked goods they provided us before and after the hike. Overall this was a full and wholesome experience that I would definitely recommend if you’re in the area.
