Qué vas a hacer

Step through time as you are immersed in stories of Hawaiʻi from the year 1750 to present day, and learn of what truly lies "beyond paradise."

Storytelling is a Hawaiian tradition as our language was originally a spoken language / oral. Missionaries later introduced the writing system that we use today.

This truly is a unique opportunity to spend time with a native Hawaiian and to learn about our kingdom, it's history, and our culture.
Other things to note
Dress comfortably for a mix of hot and chilly weather.

I am a kanaka (Hawaiian) born and raised on Maui. I've seen the good and bad of these islands, and I've also lived it.

In 2013, I graduated from a prestigious Hawaiian school, which helped in my understanding of the corruption not only here at home but all over the world.

Dónde vas a estar

We will gather at "Kehalani Mauka Park," which at this time does not have an official address. The best closest address belongs to Pu'u Kukui Elementary School (3700 Kehalani Mauka Pkwy, Wailuku, HI 96793). Do NOT turn into the school -- keep driving straight BUT slow down, the park will be to the right. Look for a big Hawaiian flag, that will be me.

Ian shared some cool history of the islands with us and integrated live local music with his storytelling. The history was quite general and some of my party wished it would be a little more detailed, but we knew that there was a lot to share within the time constraint and super appreciated the knowledge that Ian imparted with us. Our favorite part was the music that Ian sang and played on the guitar! It made the history feel more tangible and provided more dimension to the experience.

Ian and his friend Adam were wonderful hosts and presented very informative and emotional the story of native Hawaiian. Ian‘s story was accompanied by the guitar and his singing qualities were amazing. We are very greatful that they gave us the opportunity to immerse into the hawaiian culture. We would definitely recommend this event for anyone who is interested in Hawaii and its people. Thank you both for a very exceptional evening!

Ian is amazing. He is knowledgeable about the topic and also extremely animated. Acting out traditional Hawaiian rituals and singing + playing beautiful Hawaiian music. I understand much more now about the recent history of Hawaii and that is gratifying.

Not what I expected - not a ghost walk tour but a really intimate storytelling experience in a beautiful location. Was interesting, funny, culturally enriching, and heartbreaking at moments. Would recommend for people interested in a different experience from the usual "touristy" stuff.

This is the sort of experience where you can't really know what to expect for sure. And I did not expect to be so powerfully moved by Ian and Adam's storytelling, singing, guitar and ukulele playing, cultural ceremonies, and spirit of aloha. And how Ian managed to condense so many hundreds of years of history into such a short period of time is pretty impressive. Don't miss this one!
