The High Line park is a gorgeous, upscale park, heavily designed and curated for optimal walking enjoyment. WeI weave together the verdant beauty of today, including the abandoned railway that inspired the park and discuss the times when the trains ran straight through this crowded neighborhood filled with industry, immigrants, slaughterhouses, meatpacking plants, bars and more. While exploring the neighborhood we’ll find the beauty, the grit and some of the higher end niceties that have come along in Chelsea’s exploding renaissance. We will also visit the famous Chelsea Market, which has a beautiful, industrial feel and compliments the artisanal shopping and food inside. We’ll take a stroll through the market, see some sights, discover the history of this old Nabisco factory, and maybe even sample a snack or two. Along the way, we'll provide historical and modern context for what we are seeing and give you some local tips about how to navigate the neighborhood, where to eat in the market, and provide other great local recommendations for exploring the city.
A tasty treat at Chelsea Market (might include freshly made doughnuts, halvah sampling, or local chocolates)
We are a team of licensed NYC tour guides who have been introducing visitors and locals alike to the history, food, and local culture of the city for close to 10 years. We've fallen in love with the beautiful High Line park and appreciate how its history continues to inform its modern progress. As a food blogger, I spend many hours exploring Chelsea Market. Rest of the team includes Josh, a former sports broadcaster; Lucy, a bubbly actress; Mary Hannah who has worked in Chelsea Market as a beer buyer; Jillian, an actress and fan of the local art scene; and Sheli, a history obsessed NYC native;
