Qué vas a hacer

Our 2.5 hour guided walking tour will introduce you to ten vibrant Mexican traditional artists and artisans in their workshops in downtown Vallarta. The visits are accompanied by cultural notes plus a few minutes to shop in his/her gallery or boutique. Not only beautiful or commercial art forms, the embroideries, paintings, and beaded pieces spring from Mexico’s spiritual roots in Mother Earth, the sacred and the harmony of the natural world.

Participants also learn how Mexico's history has influenced life in this beautiful tourist center, as well as the ongoing impact of immigrant cultures on Mexico's mestizo and indigenous roots.

We begin by the Guadalupe Cathedral and quickly reach a gallery created by an indigenous Wixaritari (Huichol) family, whose sacred blue deer and peyote-inspired visions are reflected in bead jewelry, sculptures, and yarn paintings.

Our second stop is the studio of the renowned stained glass artist who created the Guadalupe church windows; in a nearby shop a couple designs and interprets milagros (folk charms). After a quick visit to a traditional huaraches workshop, we stop at a new upscale boutique framed by straw petates and bamboo arches from Chiapas. And before closing at a center for hand-painted talavera tiles and pottery, we stop in at the new Casa Oaxaca to meet an award-winning potter and to see Zapotec weaving.
Other things to note
This walking tour of downtown Vallarta and a bit of adjacent Cinco de Diciembre is comfortable for visitors of all ages. Bathrooms and rest spots are plentiful. Wear comfortable flat shoes.

This is a good experience for foreigners with no previous experience in Mexico. It is a good FIRST GLIMPSE of our culture and traditions.

Anne Marie was a wonderful, intimate speaker...as a 60 + person myself I appreciate that her life experiences have brought the tour to another level of understanding and quality. Do not think it is just another “art walk” it is far more and then some!! She generously gives of her time and the money generated to provide children in Puerto Vallarta with reburbished bycicles.

My wife found this Cultural Tour of Vallarta Artisans which I initially thought was just another tour. I was incorrect. Anne Marie's tour introduces you several local Vallarta artists in their studios and you can have a conversation with them or watch them work. I particularly loved the glass makers. The tour is inexpensive and she uses the proceeds to repair or purchase bicycles for children which enables them to go to school, work odd jobs and to access recreation. Two thumbs way up for this Cultural Tour!

A fabulous tour where you personally meet Mexican artisans and how they create their products. Each and every artisan was unique with a story to share. The products are high quality. I bought a wonderful fold up woven hat from the family that makes hats, a handwoven wool blanket from the son of an Oaxacan weaver and milagros with their stories by a spiritual woman. Anne Marie has organized this tour with cultural maps and personalized stories of living in Mexico. This is a must do tour for a hands on, primarily walking, Cultural experience in Puerta Vallarta. Do it!!
