Qué vas a hacer
We'll meet in our 19th-century sea captain's home to outline our historic walk, discuss your interests and get to know one another before embarking on a 2-3 hour (give or take) historic walk. Just a minute walk from our front door is Pilgrim Hall, America's oldest museum, where I'll ask you to note the first of 13 'tercentenary' monuments that were donated to the town for its 300th anniversary (1920). We'll then head south on the 'King's Highway' (locals know this road by it's 6 different names) and pass by the 1820 Courthouse, the oldest men's club in America, and the town's tallest tree (a massive Copper Beech!) Then on to Cole's Hill: a beautiful vantage point above Plymouth Harbor where you'll see the statue of Massasoit, the Pilgrim Sarcophagus and several Tercentenary monuments), before heading down recently refurbished granite steps that lead directly to 'The Rock.' All told we'll 'lasso' at least a dozen of Plymouth's historic sites, including Town Brook and Brewster Gardens, the Plimoth Grist Mill, meander about Burial Hill (I'll introduce you to Bathsheba James) and much more (on weekdays we can go up to the top of the new Town Hall (built one french fry at a time!). Dress for comfort and walking - noting that there is only one 'somewhat steep' hundred-yard climb but overall this is suitable for most ages and fitness levels.
Not just sights, the stories behind the sights, the people behind the stories! Some of the stories I actually wrote, having reported on the town for the local paper for years. I know the town like the back of my hand, am a member of several local non-profits (homelessness and environment), organized several community events including "Communitree (ask me!)" and am friends with many of the town's most engaged and knowledgeable citizens (it's likely we'll run into a few along the way) so if you go for a walk with me you're a 'townie' for a day! I can also advise on restaurants, pubs, beaches..
Before we leave there will be coffee and cookies (or other baked goods).
