Guests will be welcomed with a short tour of our printmaking studio, meeting our equipment, work stations and gallery space. We'll tell you a little bit about our history as an artists' collective and growing a non-profit arts organization in Toronto. Then we'll dive right into printmaking! You will learn to transfer an image of the city (either your own drawing or a provided template) to a linoleum or softoleum block, using our carving tools to create a plate, and then print your artwork on postcard size paper using a fun array of colours and inking techniques. We'll be using water-based inks so chemical sensitivities will be greatly reduced in the space. Before sending you off with your newly created masterpiece, we'll share some tea and give you some awesome tips and suggestions for other art and printmaking stops around the city, as well as places to explore in our awesome neighbourhood. One of our artists will be running the workshop, sharing her expertise on relief methods and spreading the magic of printmaking! You'll get to go home with the plate you made as well as a beautiful print of Toronto.
I am an artist and the managing director of the inPrint Collective, with a BFA in fine art from York University. I work at the Art Gallery of Ontario as an education officer, and have been making and teaching art in Toronto and the GTA professionally since 2012. inPrint formed in 2008 as a way to make printmaking accessible to everyone, from young children to wise sages; visitors and residents; students, hobbyists and art professionals alike. InPrint artists will conduct this workshop include myself, Amye St John, Maaike Bouhuyzen-Wenger, Shannon Moynagh or Kim Dayman.
