Qué vas a hacer

Come on guest board our Cabbin vessel, a 33 ft Lafitte Skiff, our crab boat. Captain Masson will head us to Andre's nearby crab traps, within Bayou Bienvenue. Upon arrival, Andre will pull up a few crab traps for everyone to observe the process a local crabber goes thru to catch these delicacies, the Blue Crab. Then YOU can try your luck at pulling a trap up like a local...
(Some crabbers may have up to 1000 traps) The trap will be baited and you will return the trap to the water. The Captain will then head us to a few areas of interest in Bayou Bienvenue, (the flood wall built across the MRGO, Violet Canal camps, and the Battery Bienvenue just to mention a few). We will proceed back to the Hebert's home where they will describe how the crabs are prepared to eat. This is where the fun begins, you will be taught how to eat and enjoy the great catch caught earlier that day. Come book today...make this year your year of adventures.
We have blankets, jackets and hats on the boat, if needed.

Hello my name is Andre Hebert. I have been a commerical fisherman, mainly blue crab, for over 10 years. My wife, Jeanette Hebert, and I live on the Bayou that I crab on, Bayou Bievenue. Ive always wanted to share the experience of catching Blue crab, bring them home and preparing the crab to eat. (What we call a Cajun Crab Boil). So lets get started... Our Captain who will guide us through our Bayou Experience will be Captain Eugene Masson, IV and deck hand, Tommy Johnston.

Dónde vas a estar

We will conduct our experience on Bayou Bienvenue. While traveling through the bayou to our location you will witness the barrier wall that was built after hurricane Katrinia to protect New Orleans., The Battery, built to defend New Orleans. The dinner preparation and meal will be held at the home of our Host Andre and his wife, Jeanette. The home is also located on the Bayou.

Andre and Jeannie were terrific hosts for this experience. As long time residents and full time trapper of Blue Crabs (over 200 traps on the water!). He knows the area extremely well and more importantly gets all the fresh crabs you can eat. We cooked the crabs first in a crab boil with spices and sausages, corn, sweet potatoes, small red skin potatoes, mushrooms and whole garlic cloves. It simmered for an hour as we went out for the boat ride where each of us got to “pull” a trap by hand. It was a great experience. But the meal afterwards was the clear highlight. Wonderful flavors shared dockside near the bayou. Great meal and sunset with new friends.

Such an amazing experience! It felt like we went boating with friends and then had a home cooked dinner with them. The hosts were all very friendly and engaging. We really enjoyed ourselves, a must do when in New Orleans!

We had never met before, but it was like hanging out with long term friends. I enjoyed being on the water and pulling up the crab traps. Dinner was AWESOME.

This was THE BEST experience we have ever done! I would recommend this as a must do! The entire trip, boat ride, pulling up crab traps, and having an amazing feast (if you don’t know how to eat crab, they are very helpful in showing you how), and the best part is how genuinely friendly they are and how they make you feel like your an old friend coming to visit. We will be doing this one again!
