I had been interested in visiting Tijuana from San Diego, but upon researching online it appeared to be not possible at this time due to covid; luckily I found Ricardo on Airbnb. His experience was with my sister, brother and one other guest (all 20s-30s) and we all agreed it was the highlight of our time in SD. Ricardo is thoughtful and funny, and while his aim is for us to know the real Tijuana, he wants to get to know you as well. As Midwesterners, walking across the border felt surreal, being transported into another world, as was seeing the wall along the border that we hear so much about but never see. Friendship Park was moving, the market was insightful into daily life, and the lunch was the best meal of the trip. Had we gone on our own and walked around Tijuana solo we would not have had anywhere near the experience that we enjoyed.

Highly recommend this tour. My family and I were staying in San Diego for the week, and we were looking for something different and unique. We didn't know what to expect and of course safety was on our minds, but it ended up being the best part of our vacation. Tijuana was such a pleasant surprise. We felt very safe and learned so much from Ricardo. The trip was very organized and crossing the border was seamless and quick. Visiting the fresh market and sampling the food was so much fun; definitely listen to Ricardo's recommendations as everything was delicious! Ricardo was professional and very interesting to talk to. There are too many wonderful examples to share about this tour but I don't want to spoil the surprises, so take my advice and don't miss out on this one!

Originally I was not going to do this experience because, although I had travelled as a solo female to other parts of Mexico, I was always warned never to cross the border by land and especially never to set foot into Tijuana. However, because of the ratings, I took the leap. I was the only person to join Ricardo for the Tijuana tour that day but it was absolutely 100% worth every penny. By far the number one Airbnb experience I have ever done. I felt completely safe. The tour opened my eyes to see that, like most cities/towns, Tijuana has the good and the bad. 90% of what I saw with my own eyes were working class people going about their lives. I even saw tourists. I got to have the famous Caesar Salad, learned about the deported veterans who fought for the USA, had an amazing Chili Relleno, tasted great snacks in the market, learned about Haitians in Tijuana, and had a deep conversation about resilience in the context of human psychology with Ricardo. It was an experience I will never forget and would 100% do it again. Mexico is a fascinating country, and this tour helps you discover it.

Ricardo is a wonderful host that gives you a very insightful tour of the “Real” Tijuana. He shows you sad and happy parts of Tijuana and tells so many stories about the growth, history, and development of Tijuana. We were able to see parts of Tijuana that we would of never known ourselves. He speaks both English and Spanish fluently.
